Acting can take on performers in a number of different ways. Some actors go through physical transformations for roles, some go through emotional transformations, and some go through both. For some of Hollywood’s greatest actors, signing up for a movie completely changed their lives forever. Some would quit acting while others had to completely change the way they lived their life.
Gene Hackman had an illustrious film career, but his older age was getting to him and he reached his breaking point with a Ray Romano comedy film. Jake Lloyd was cast as the young version of Darth Vader, but having such a prominent role led to a huge downfall for the actor. George Clooney did his own stunts in Syriana and got severely injured when one of the stunts went horribly wrong. Shelly Duvall dedicated four months to filming of the intense film The Shining and was put through literal hell to get her scenes films. Bill Skarsgard completely transformed for the role of Pennywise the clown in IT, but the haunting may have turned around on him. Bob Hoskins starred alongside cartoons in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but it was the animated world which took over his own head. Colin Firth had to learn a stutter for The King’s Speech and then had to un-learn the speaking inconsistencies for his own personal life.
