Elisabeth Moss Describes A 'Fictional' Totalitarian, Right-Wing Regime

  • Published on Apr 21, 2017
  • It's not a huge stretch that 'The Handmaid's Tale' star Elisabeth Moss is playing a woman living in an oppressive, fundamentalist, dystopian America.

On the HMT, nobody seems to be creating wealth (making money). Like there are 4 soldiers on every corner. The women can’t work and the commanders just seem to be plotting how to keep control. None of it makes sense (duh, it’s the right winger’s wet dream) , but this part really doesn’t.

  • Dani Mother of Dragons

Scientology has a proven history of sexual assault, control and harassment, abuse, what an oxymoron...her show literally describes what her people would do if not stopped. Funny how they make the bad guys seem Christian (despite doing exactly what the Bible forbids) and not what the truth would be in realty...which would be far left dictators seeking to silence actual Christians.

  • Dani Mother of Dragons

Except in the future, it won't be right wing...but left, it's will be the right who will be enslaved, killed and imprisoned...just like they were in the past. They have already started lying about them and massive censorship. The resistance will be the right, the dictators will be and always have been the left.

There's a line in Bojack Horseman that explains cults like Scientology really well:
"What?! No! It's not a cult. It's just a dogmatic school of thought taught by a for-profit organization with the promise of social and professional opportunities."
So basically, "pay money to join our organization and we'll make you famous." I wonder how many parents threw money at it to make their kids famous child actors that resulted in the kids turning to drugs and hating their lives.

Let us not forget: this totalitarian religious regime are existing and existed: taliban, isis, Iran, Saudis - just nam them. All based on the woman's march's favourite "charachter's" (Linda Cockroach) favourite ideology: the islam and the sharia.
As I covered the war against of isis I saw personally what they did. Do not forget the "religion of peace"...

The Handmaid's Tale is one of the best shows I've ever seen in my whole lifetime. It is extremely relevant, surreal, well-crafted and multilayered. You feel like you're a part of the character's world and so deeply invested in her getting out. If you're a woman, you especially MUST see this show...they touch on a lot of things we experience by society on a multitude of levels.

I like the series but her being cast as the lead it's the one thing that challenges me during the viewing. She's a very talented actress, I liked her in everything she did, so I am not saying she's not good in it: it's just that in each episode I watch, every now and then, I am brutally pushed out of the comfort zone of the suspension of belief and have to confront the fact that the actress in front of me is (very believably!) portraying a just disdain for a regime which has lots of traits in common with the cult she was born into and continues to be faithful to. She, as an actress harbors feelings that she is not able to face or recognize in real life, and I have to say I find this very disturbing.

I have seen every episode of Handmaid's Tale and I don't see a "right wing" conspiracy at all. Quite the opposite, I see the far left progressive movement, if left to its own devices going down a path as draconian as depicted in HT. In addition, there is very very little Christianity going on. For starters, no talk of Grace, churches are outlawed and they keep quoting the Old Testament which if you are a Christian, you know we have been freed from the law. Lots of pseudo-Scientology in this story and scarry.

The Handmaid's Tale is the only series I've seen that stars Elizabeth Moss. In fact, it's pretty much the only place I've seen her. When she walked in and sat down, all I could picture in my head was that this was actually and truly Offred/June, attending a talk show after the fall of Gilead to tell her tale.
And that feeling was really, really cool. Because it's also plausible. Talk shows would most likely be reinstated after Gilead is gone, and I could see June attending one.

Most definitely!! With the fundamentalist judges and lawmakers presently in control, more and more rights are being stripped away while we cheer them on after false flag operations and MEN are deciding what WOMEN are allowed and not allowed to do concerning reproductive rights!! Fertility crises are upon us as well with vaccine mandates driven by the fear-mongering media dangling from the strings of the Big pHARMa puppeteers- our children are being systematically sterilized and facing ever growing autoimmune and neurological disorders because we are terrified of "Measles"! These days are coming, and this novel was written just ONE YEAR before the 1986 vaccine law was written- right in the middle of the Reagan Era when religious f@cknuts began to take hold! Foreshadowing at its finest (and scariest!!)

The Handmaid's tale will never happen. an ARMY of brainless morons would have to work to dissolve the 2'ND amendment. and then push to disarm the citizenry and have the government take all the guns away from the people. This same army of nitwits would then have to openly call everyone who disagrees with them a homophobe, a misogynist, or a racist and push even the most sane and understanding liberals further and further to the right. They would also have to openly support ultra conservative religious nutjobs who descend on countries like a Tyranid plague and form NoGo zones and rape gangs. and cause a deep polarization and schism in society.

@Zachary James Short yes, but a lot of people get ph d's and don't remember 70 per cent, or so, of what they studied. (my sister is a perfect example). A lot of people spend hours memorizing facts to pass a test, to get A's, and don't understand what they are studying and can't use it in real life. Medical doctors and pharmacists, mechanics, etc., make mistakes all the time because they do not understand and do not remember MOST of what they studied. There are a few people who are very intelligent, and can rise above the inefficient way people are educated, but what about those who have dyslexia, lots of misunderstood words and misunderstandings? What about those who can't get into college because they are still stuck at a seventh grade level, through no fault of their own? A lot of talent and potential is being wasted. With Study Technology, you can take education to a whole new level.
It is being used secularly, here and in other countries.
I would have struggled a lot less with my studies, mentally, with Study Technology.

    • patphatcat
      patphatcat 8 months ago

@Zachary James Short well, I wish I knew about Hubbard's Study Technology when I was in high school and college. It would have made my life a lot easier.
There is a Baptist minister using it to educate inner - city kids in Los Angeles. Most American public schools are not that great.

    • patphatcat
      patphatcat 10 months ago +1

Azul Casaca also, children of scientologists go to public school, colleges and universities. It is up to the parents. There are only 2 schools started by women, that I know of, that are schools that uses Hubbard's Study Technology, to educate students. One is in Virginia and the other is in Washington, D.C., so most scientologists can't send kids to a scientology school. A few kids are home schooled, using Study Technology, but it is the choice of the children and the parents how and where a child wants to be educated. I am sure you have met many scientologists and the children of scientologists going to public / private school and college, just like everyone else, but you are not aware of it.
