Blake Vackar's got a new living room folks. Because traditional projector placement was a big challenge for his new space, Sony came to the rescue with their new Sony GTZ1 ultra short throw 4K projector with 2000 lumens and Blue laser Phosphor technology. This projector is a perfect match for our 5 Series Short Throw (ST) screen which accepts projection from ultra show throw projectors that can be placed nearly up against the wall, saving space and installation headaches.

Xiaomi Mi 1080p shirt throw laser projector, 150 inch picture from 50cm. Small and portable, virtually silent. Laser said to last 32 years with average use. Cost? $1800, Sony needs to be damn good to warrant that kind of price

  • Tnutt19

Thats a lot of money for a room killer. It is right in the middle of the floor. Just does not go, I found it funny when he said you do not have to worry about walking in front of a light source and literally as he said that he is walking around the giant box in the middle of the walk way. Maybe if someone could integrate this into a nice credenza and not have it stick out like a sore thumb, I know for one my wife would never sign off on this for aesthetics purpose.

    • Screen Innovations
      Screen Innovations  2 years ago

Tnutt19 yep that's exactly what they are doing with salamander see here www.soundandvision.com/content/salamander-creates-credenza-sony-short-throw-projector

    • Tnutt19
      Tnutt19 2 years ago

That is a good start in the right direction, it does not look half bad on that little table it is on but I think they could do better at that price point. It could be fully integrated into a nice credenza where all you see is the credenza, then you just would not put anything over the throw lens. Couple that with one of your screens and bam, you have your self a viable product for that market. All they would have to do though really is be connected with a couple of high end custom furniture companies and make it available for the clientele to custom make theirs. I think that would make this idea pop!

    • Screen Innovations
Screen Innovations  2 years ago +1

Funny you mention it, their new version which is smaller and brighter (see here: ru-clip.com/video/BWwuquXnW5A/video.html) has been integrated by many cabinet makers such as Salamander and others. Most people have AV cabinets under their TV's anyway so it makes good sense.

What would a screen like that cost in a 100 inch dia. version? I think the newer set retails for $25K and is brighter. If the screen isn't too much that would give you 23" on a diagonal for not too much more that the current state-of-the-art OLED panel and thus be a relative bargain. You're right, it a great option for a must-use home like a large living room.

I don't like the 4k projector because it's on the floor it's in the way kids will play around it and trip and fall over it,it's bulky and it just looks out f place, great picture but if your like me,when you bring company over that's the first irrattating thing thier gonna see and thier going to be distracted by it,the 4K is a no no...

  • Bryan ONeill
    Bryan ONeill 2 years ago

It's cool, but way too big. Plus, it's on the ground. I guarantee if you have cats they're going to sleep on it. LOL Also, people might seriously trip over it unless it was elevated on a table, but then the screen would have to be too. It's good but better to wait for the price drop / physical size decrease / better light source to happen. LG has a nice short throw projector. It's not 4K just yet, but they've got the right direction on this.

Is the picture quality of Sony Laser project that good. Do the colours pop as much as the claims that are being made.

There is no bulb - it's a laser light source and it is rated for 20,000 hours.

What about Brightness compared to LCD or LED 120" 4k screens and What About compared to Frame Rates ?

    • Screen Innovations
Screen Innovations  2 years ago +1

Those are complex details coming down to lots of different variables such as screen size, projector output, technology, and screen gain. Safe to say though that we match and many times exceed the output of flat panel brightness.

at 0:26 the screen is 21:9 so can the project change the aspect ration to the cinematic 2.35:1?

    • Alamda A. Balqhin
Alamda A. Balqhin 2 years ago

HeadBassVTEC the ratio does not change by the projector, its on the image itself that you project, black bars will be added ._.

    • Steve Vestel
      Steve Vestel 2 years ago

Screen Innovations OK so what does that mean? And I hate gaming. The last game I played was back in 1986 and that was the original Atari Pacman and Spaced Invaders.

    • Screen Innovations
      Screen Innovations  2 years ago

I just spoke with Sony's Marketing Manager and no, this projector does not have HDR. The vw5000 does however have 18gb/s on each input capable of HDR in 4k from any source (including gaming consoles)

Could you take up a Whole Wall?

    • Screen Innovations
Screen Innovations  2 years ago +3

Now that's something that deserves an AMEN! :) We manufacture and build our screens here in Austin, TX. The screens you see in movie theaters are very large, 100's of feet. If you've got the space for one of those in your house, I would love to see it :)

    • Steve Vestel
      Steve Vestel 2 years ago

Screen Innovations - Larger is always BETTER. How big can you go? And are you located here in the United States? Whenever I have my home built once I can save up the money I would love to have a Home Theater built with Dolby Digital Surround Sound. Mastered with THX if that's possible. My question is How big are the screens at AMC Theaters? I would love to have a screen that big.

    • Screen Innovations
Screen Innovations  2 years ago +1

Don't we all :) We can make this particular screen up to 120" diagonal in 16:9 ratio. But we have other materials that go much larger.

    • Steve Vestel
Steve Vestel 2 years ago +1

Screen Innovations - I don't know how big the wall has to be in order for me to have a very Large Screen. I would love to have a Screen LARGER then an IMAX Screen. Maybe a 2,000-3,000" screen lol.
