As an 18-year-old born in 2001, I basically grew up on the Internet. I feel like Gen Z is unique in the sense that we have the option to learn everything on the Internet that wasn't taught to us at home or in school.

The problem with us Gen Z kids is that we are both teens, 18 and 19, and 9/10. I'm 14. Me and my friends hangout almost everyday, the forest by my house being one of our favorite places. We use Facebook, we mainly use social media to save memories and listen to music, and almost all of us are huge art fans. Then you have my friends 8 year old brother. He is always on the xbox or his phone and never hangs out with his friends out of school. Then you have my 16 year old friend. She's always drawing and with friends, almost never on her phone, and helping both my friend group and her own with mental health issues. We are such a wide range of ages that everyone is different. My friends disscus the horrors of the modern age. We disscus how obsessed people are with tech. We make jokes about idiots who eat tidepods. But then we watch some one of the same generation, mainly younger, never looking up from their phone. It's annoying being called a kid and being told we never get off our phones, when thats not all of us. Not at all.

Could it be possible to be born in one generation, but feel a part of another? Was born in 93n but have always been around computers and tech. Didn’t get an iPhone or iPad until way later tho.

HEY YALL, this will probably get lost in the comments but in case anyone sees this: IF YOU WANT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT IGEN/GEN Z IN DEPTH I HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING THIS BOOK - "iGen" by Jean M Twenge.

It's super interesting. I read it as a choice book for my senior year positive psychology class last year (also a class I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend taking if you can) and it was so enlightening. I learned so much about our generation and it was just a super interesting read. I was actually excited to read it - even though it was the longest book on the list of options for the class - and I had trouble putting it down every time I read it. VERY helpful if you want to learn more in-depth about what iGen is like and how we got to be how we are. Also notes a lot of our strengths and weaknesses and has made me much more aware of the way I'm thinking and living my life.

(Also, again, I cannot recommend looking into the positive psychology field enough. Taking that one-semester class completely changed my life and my mindset and I've become so much more positive and mentally healthy than I was all throughout high school. Taught me so many extremely important and useful things about mindset and mental health, I kept all my notes and papers from the class because it was just so amazingly useful. FIND A CLASS YOU CAN TAKE ON IT OR RESEARCH IT ON YOUR OWN, IT IS SO WORTH IT!!)

It seems Gen Z is extremely tech smart, and “street smart” from the internet; they know everything you think they don’t. They are very wise for their ages when you get them one on one, and have a conversation with them.
They also don’t care or follow the rules of old systems, so it’s hard to be their teachers unless you get on their own level.
As a Millennial/Gen X cusp (1982) I have a lot of faith in these new kids sometimes known as “crystal children”, they do not see color, and don’t put up with inequality, so it means great things for humanity; IF they can learn to speak right and turn off the slang at inappropriate times in order to get their insightful messages out. ✨

Okay but I’m gen z and the first iPhone didn’t come out until I was like 8 years old. So no, I didn’t grow up with an iPhone or iPad in my hand. Didn’t even get an iPod until I was like 12 I think. Didn’t have social media until 16. And I’m not the only one. We’ve got to separate where people remember the release of smartphones and those who literally grew up after everyone and their mother had a smartphone. /:

  • Save Net Neutrality Anti-Republican

I've heard Gen Zer's say they were poorer than millennials growing up because of the recession. As a millennial who was born in the 80's, we had rabbit ears and 5 channels on our TV. We had VCR's and no kids owned cell phones. On the plus side we had good cartoons on network TV. Tell us again about how poor you were growing up, Gen Z. It's amusing.
