Sorry about the robottic tone and a couple of audio glitches in my voice towards the end of the video. My editing program was doing it's best to remove a whole bunch of dog barking. I decided it was a trade-off that was worth keeping.

Great hair! Do you have long layers?

    • Athena Padilla

Yes, for a loose curl type like mine long layers are very important, or my hair would just be stringy waves.

Yours is by far the most informative curly hair video! Now I know why my hair has halo frizz - I have been diluting my products and scrunch the the wrong way!
I love the shape of your hair, Do you get a special kind of cut? What should I ask my stylist for? 😊

That part about paying attention to all the layers of hair makes sense. I'm only a few days into embracing my curly hair and I keep wondering why the hair on the back of my head feels fluffy instead of defined like the curls framing my face. It's probably because they get too little product!

I would love to send a picture of me just using 2 of your methods. I am not sure how to send it to you to have you check out how it responds. I looked at my shampoo & conditioner it does have sulfate in it/well my Hubbie looked. Even though it says "Repairing" It supposedly has coconut in it...

Your hair looks GORGEOUS!!! And you're just too adorable. Just found your channel and your hair looks similar to mine so I'm going to spend some time watching your videos. I'm 45, let all my natural gray grow out and now I want to stop straightening my hair so much and just let me natural curl free. I'm having issues with frizz and buildup. Thanks and I'm glad I found you :)

Now when you mention the squish to condish - do you mean the leave-in conditioner or the cowash? I squish in my cowash and rinse out about 90% of it and also squish in my leave-in before combing to smooth it out (thank you that was an idea you gave me!). (BTW - you look so different now - in a great way!)

I guess if you want to squish in a Co-wash and also a conditioner as long as you're remembering the smoothing step then this would work too.

Athena Padilla  9 months ago +1

When I am talking about Squish To Condish I'm referring to a specific technique. Which is to basically inject the hair strands with water but pressing water up into it but scrunching when very wet.
Many of us take our own approach to this however, Add address in this video, which is another reason why I don't really do STC. I prefer to wet my hair thouroghly and take rake through my products really well, styling/twirling as I ago, then scrunch at the very end to express excess water and lock in curl form.
