  • This speech is a call to action. We spend about eighty percent of our day at work, the rest is at home. If we have a bad day at work we are likely to take that negativity home with us and vice versa. It is of paramount importance that we create healthy environments in the spaces that most affect our lives by giving of our best and receiving the like in return. The 5 Chairs is a powerful and systematic method which helps us master our own behaviours and manage the behaviours of others. To be a good leader is to contribute to the success and happiness of everyone, at work and at home, on a conscious level. The 5 Chairs offer 5 Choices. Which will you choose?
Behavioral Coach, Corporate Trainer, Author of ‘5 Chairs 5 Choices’. Louise Evans heads up her own organization in Florence, Italy from which she offers international leadership development, cross-cultural transitional coaching and personal development programmes for individuals and teams working in international contexts. She is English but has lived and worked in Germany, France and for the last 30 years in Italy.
Three things have always been important in her life - people, travel and the performing arts - all three of which she combines in her daily work. Having travelled to seven-five countries and experienced culture shock three times, Louise brings multiple perspectives to the present moment to help people connect across their differences. Louise believes deeply in people’s ability to grow and transform. What she values most is helping people strengthen their self-awareness and their understanding of others so that they bring their best selves into the world in every situation.

Ive been on this earth for 31 years. I have always been a hedgehog , without even knowing this. I am glad that these Ted Talks exist, it makes me feel so much better knowing that this speaker has also learned alot along the way. Moral of my comment: never stop growing and learning about yourself. I know I still have a ton of work to do in that aspect!

I LOVE this concept. I was introduced to it today in reference to developing a course on emotional intelligence. However, I see implications in many other topic areas also. I will connect with you separately to see how this information and your book can be woven into some of my courses. Great information, great delivery, great connection to real life thinking AND when we are honest and reflective of our attack, self-doubt, and wait thinking process - we can unpack the impact it has on our connection to others.

What a great TEDx Talk! The quality of the content and the presentation is that of TED Talks, not a frequent sight among TEDx Talks. It's so good that I want to share it with my parents. They are Taiwanese and don't understand English, however. The "Chinese (China)" translation option is not an ideal option for them, because the Simplified Chinese characters would take them longer time to comprehend as Traditional Chinese is what they learned and use on daily basis. More importantly, a lot of the word/phrase choices used in the "Chinese (China)" option are not ones that would be used by Taiwanese people, and thus, I am afraid that is likely to create understanding gap for Taiwanese audience. I'd like to volunteer myself to contribute a "Traditional Chinese (Taiwan)" translation to this video. Community contribution feature of RU-clip, however, is not enabled for this video. I wonder if anyone could tell me how to add another translation to this video. Thanks!

This is an adapted presentation of NonViolent Communication, which was invented by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, an American psychologist who lived most of his life in Switzerland. He wrote, lectured, and trained about his modality, NonViolent Communication, all over the world. He was one of the early mediation specialist, who was one of the pioneers. Louise Evans, perhaps his student, gives a very excellent presentation, but she should acknowledge that this is his material, as she interprets it, just as she gives credit to Victor Frankl when she quotes him. There are many very good videos of Marshall Rosenberg on RU-clip if you want to got to the source which she is kind of plagiarizing.

Hi Isa. I'd like to invite you to watch my talk again and make note of the direct reference I made to the influence Marshall Rosenberg had on me, my work and my life and the 9-day course I followed with him in USA. My book '5 Chairs 5 Choices' is also dedicated to him. I invite you to be a little more attentive before making certain comments. Thank you

I like the green chair quite often I sit in it for a while... wait to see and then go directly to the red chair because people usually give a reasons for that! it is pity to be in the yellow! And basically in the blue one is more likely to show weakness and allow people to use you as being tolerant soon or later kills you!

    Proverbs 4:5-10 KJV
[5] Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
[6] Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. [
7] Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. [
8] Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her. [
9] She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. [
10] Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many.

Its a good talk but still useless. One person knowing these skills cannot make a relationship work. No one knows this stuff. I've known this since a child and I've tried EVERY chair for communication and if you're in Purple or Blue you get walked on. If you're in Green you get nowhere with anything. If you're in Yellow you'll be depressed and in red you may have a backbone and even respect yourself for standing up for yourself or others but the one's you stand against will come down on you harder. You cannot be in Purple with average beings. If they have not undergone training - weeks, months or even years, they will still be vicious people and toxic to be around. They just cannot get it. There needs to be another chair, the one where you just close off and walk away from toxic people - if you can't walk away, then you block them and ignore them from the Green chair attitude of hoping you wont have to endure their horrid energy for much longer, that you can escape their evilness at some point. And that hope is what gets you through. People don't change, not even when you do. They will always have their own agenda and try to control you or the situation. Being in the Purple chair and giving these people empathy is the worst thing to for yourself, you'll turn into the pitiful Yellow chair person in no time.

I loved this TED Talk! I have had a few challenging days with my first Christmas in 23 years without my two sons. I am embracing their time to travel together which is what I wanted for them! But then some additional family dynamics appeared in my life. So tonight - feeling alone - I googled Ted Talks "chaos" which is how I found this one. I don't consider the life I live and lead to be chaotic but I allow a certain personality into my life that causes undue chaos (because I think I can "help" that person) and this talk was exactly what I needed. I retreat into nature when I feel "attacked" or "sad" but I also go on runs for joy and happiness! I love the chairs. The colors. The association with the animals. As a visual person, it will help me to remember! All of the quotes are from my people I like to quote! This is one of my all time favorite Ted Talks! I will share this talk often! And I will watch it over and over again! Thank you so very much!

This is a controlling video. This is exactly what we don't want. People controlling us. She mentions blue pill or red pill.. that's from a movie!! Its not reality. There are an infinite amount of out comes. She only focuses on just a few.

    • Louise Evans
      Louise Evans Месяц назад

I feel the urge to reply to your comment Thomas and to clarify that my intention with the 5 chairs is to intentionally expose the negative impact of 'controlling' from the red chair and invite people to make other choices which are more productive. Nobody can control anyone else. That's an illusion. The only thing we can truly control is our personal reaction to life as it happens to us. That is our choice and our power in every moment of which, of course there are infinite outcomes. The chairs represent represent 5 fundamental choices which can be elaborated into thousands.......
