JINJER - Perennial (Official Video) FIRST REACTION!!

  • Published on Jan 11, 2019
  • JINJER dropped a new song with an official music video today!! I have to say, their sound is evolving and getting better (in my opinion) with every single new song! Excellent musicianship and vocals as well in every bar of music! Can't say enough great things about this band, and they make it hard to find things to critique!!!

A lot of attention to the music and interesting comments on the instrumentation and 0(! ) attention to the lyrics, which are usually deep and interesting in all Jinjer's compositions. READ the lyrics before fantasizing about the meaning: you missed a lot. :) The video is great and it complements and emphasizes the lyrics, which you completely ignored.

Excellent points. Pretty much the same thoughts I had myself. This feels like a supergroup to me in a way, as all 4 members bring excellence.... yet also very not a supergroup because they are all pulling in the same direction! i.e. the betterment of the song. Musical chops aside, I also love the fact that their lyrics put most English-speaking bands to shame, despite the fact they are Russian-speakers.
I think I'll just cut down my music reaction subs to just here & Mike the music snob btw. Nobody else seems to have a clue. :)

This song and Teacher Teacher are on my everyday playlist. Tatiana is an amazing vocalist probably the only female vocalist that can tackle any genre that she wants. This band though. Without this current package they would not be the band they are. Eugene Vlad and the drummer are flawless together.

It's not only just 4 people that are really good at what they do, but also 4 people that seem to gel together musically.
The entire composition and the lyrics form a cohesive whole.
A lot of bands, you have egos colliding in a band and the singer needs a moment to show of, the drummer needs a moment to solo, the guitarist needs a moment to solo.
There's very little of that in Jinjer.
It extends to Tatianas growls, they tend to be employed where they are needed rather than shoved in because fans expect them.
With Pisces especially, sure, it's great to shock people in reaction videos, but when you learn the lyrics and what's behind them (Tatianas inner world), there really isn't any other way to do them. It is all about the stark contrasts between her pretty much bipolar inner world of sweet and beautiful times mixed with an absolute beast, both in energy and emotion lashing out.

So far I'm still quite indifferent to Jinjer. I like Tatiana's voice very much, so I listen to a new Jinjer-song every now and then to see if that song might be the one for me. "I speak astronomy" is the one that has come the closest to a like from me so far. Obviously I shouldn't have to say that this is just my opinion. I just haven't warmed up to Jinjer yet.
    Nevertheless a good reaction video!

Amen. Each person is bad ass at what they do. I hate when people tend to just lean toward Tatiana (not that she is not a bad ass) but they are all amazing and that it correlates why Jinger is so good. Just amazing.

Give Coheed and Cambria a go. Try "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3". Do a live version and see the crowd reaction. Also you probably won't understand the lyrics because the singer writes a comic book then makes a album around it.

You can compare the three Jinjer drummers.
Eugene Mantulin (Left the group after he injured his spine, falling out of the window. Now he's fine):
Dmitriy Kim (Dmitriy couldn't keep up with concert schedule and took touring quite hard.):
    Vlad Ulasevich (The current drummer):

The start of the song sounds like an intro of Devin Townsend song. I think Jinjer is an evolution of Music. I hear in Tatiana's Voice the tone of a Jazz, Soul vocalist... this Band is very very special.

Perennial is a freaking work of art. As for the meaning... I think there are several metaphors.
    Centered around enduring though change.

    • Xul
      Xul 6 months ago

Their lyrics are probably one of the most overlooked part of the band. Taking nature as a motif or allegory (same with pisces before) isn't that new but it is so damn well executed by them especially if you consider that they are no native speakers.
I'm not sure how to interprete this one though ... One interpretation could be the story of a slightly dysfunctional, ever-changing relationship that goes through cycles of destruction and reconstruction similar to the annual rebirth and death in nature.
In a more far-reaching interpretation you could see it as the general relation of mankind and nature with mankind heading towards a point of no return (death) to give rise to an other, maybe better version of itself that takes the best of its "youth" to a new beginning - still facing nature that similarly goes through changes ...

Your videos are not such a reaction, they are more like detailed review. Most "reactors" can't get pass Tatiana's voice while you always give us full band review. I like that. In fact, I like that a lot.
Regarding song, another masterpiece from Jinjer. I thing we all got spoiled by them and we expected ( and got) perfection.

In their Oct 2018 Austin, TX RU-clip interview, Eugene explains that their drummer, Vlad, is deep into music theory. That is why you are noticing his intricate creative drumming. Eugene and Tatiana also explain that they have educational backgrounds in linguistics, Russian, and Russian literature and that is why you get these conceptual poetic lyrics that actually have a logical structure to say something. They are not meaningless clusters of words like some other bands put out. This song is about mother nature dying off in autumn, not completely, but just into a dreamy coma through winter until she returns again in the spring - hence the song title perennial. As you mentioned, all the members have unique abilities that come together to form a highly skilled and intellectual band that creates very cool and interesting metal music.

Russian? They are Ukrainian. Plenty of famous Ukrainian writers, from Gogol to Bulgakov. But I guess it's more into the Ukrainian culture to question things, not to be a homo-Sovieticus doing what your dictator commands you. Be an individual, going beyond societies accepted normality.

Spot on about the musicianship and talent of this band. Thanks for the tip on bass and drum play through videos! Need to check them out. Jinjer is actually a band of four highly talented musicians who apparently do have the sense of good taste. I mean, their talent shows, but they're not pushing it. The music comes first. They don't seem to have a feverish need to point out their talent. They're laying it down for the music. That cuts the mustard.
