JINJER - Perennial (Official Video) FIRST REACTION!!

  • Published on Jan 11, 2019
  • JINJER dropped a new song with an official music video today!! I have to say, their sound is evolving and getting better (in my opinion) with every single new song! Excellent musicianship and vocals as well in every bar of music! Can't say enough great things about this band, and they make it hard to find things to critique!!!

So far I'm still quite indifferent to Jinjer. I like Tatiana's voice very much, so I listen to a new Jinjer-song every now and then to see if that song might be the one for me. "I speak astronomy" is the one that has come the closest to a like from me so far. Obviously I shouldn't have to say that this is just my opinion. I just haven't warmed up to Jinjer yet.
    Nevertheless a good reaction video!

Amen. Each person is bad ass at what they do. I hate when people tend to just lean toward Tatiana (not that she is not a bad ass) but they are all amazing and that it correlates why Jinger is so good. Just amazing.

Give Coheed and Cambria a go. Try "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3". Do a live version and see the crowd reaction. Also you probably won't understand the lyrics because the singer writes a comic book then makes a album around it.

Maybe it will be interesting for you.
You can compare the three Jinjer drummers.
Eugene Mantulin (Left the group after he injured his spine, falling out of the window. Now he's fine):
Dmitriy Kim (Dmitriy couldn't keep up with concert schedule and took touring quite hard.):
    Vlad Ulasevich (The current drummer):

The start of the song sounds like an intro of Devin Townsend song. I think Jinjer is an evolution of Music. I hear in Tatiana's Voice the tone of a Jazz, Soul vocalist... this Band is very very special.

Perennial is a freaking work of art. As for the meaning... I think there are several metaphors.
    Centered around enduring though change.

    • Xul
      Xul 5 days ago

Their lyrics are probably one of the most overlooked part of the band. Taking nature as a motif or allegory (same with pisces before) isn't that new but it is so damn well executed by them especially if you consider that they are no native speakers.
I'm not sure how to interprete this one though ... One interpretation could be the story of a slightly dysfunctional, ever-changing relationship that goes through cycles of destruction and reconstruction similar to the annual rebirth and death in nature.
In a more far-reaching interpretation you could see it as the general relation of mankind and nature with mankind heading towards a point of no return (death) to give rise to an other, maybe better version of itself that takes the best of its "youth" to a new beginning - still facing nature that similarly goes through changes ...

Ok, I have a new favorite Jinjer song. Wow. They've outdone themselves once again, particularly the rhythm section (as you mentioned). I also thought the video was very interesting and visually appealing. Very nice. (Tati's singing voice, though? Wow. She sounded so beautiful in that softer part!)

  • stenc 55

Your videos are not such a reaction, they are more like detailed review. Most "reactors" can't get pass Tatiana's voice while you always give us full band review. I like that. In fact, I like that a lot.
Regarding song, another masterpiece from Jinjer. I thing we all got spoiled by them and we expected ( and got) perfection.

In their Oct 2018 Austin, TX RU-clip interview, Eugene explains that their drummer, Vlad, is deep into music theory. That is why you are noticing his intricate creative drumming. Eugene and Tatiana also explain that they have educational backgrounds in linguistics, Russian, and Russian literature and that is why you get these conceptual poetic lyrics that actually have a logical structure to say something. They are not meaningless clusters of words like some other bands put out. This song is about mother nature dying off in autumn, not completely, but just into a dreamy coma through winter until she returns again in the spring - hence the song title perennial. As you mentioned, all the members have unique abilities that come together to form a highly skilled and intellectual band that creates very cool and interesting metal music.

Russian? They are Ukrainian. Plenty of famous Ukrainian writers, from Gogol to Bulgakov. But I guess it's more into the Ukrainian culture to question things, not to be a homo-Sovieticus doing what your dictator commands you. Be an individual, going beyond societies accepted normality.

Spot on about the musicianship and talent of this band. Thanks for the tip on bass and drum play through videos! Need to check them out. Jinjer is actually a band of four highly talented musicians who apparently do have the sense of good taste. I mean, their talent shows, but they're not pushing it. The music comes first. They don't seem to have a feverish need to point out their talent. They're laying it down for the music. That cuts the mustard.

apart from like 3-4 songs i wasnt really a jinjer fan, some people say "I speak astronomy" is good, i hated it. Some people say "Ape" was good, i didnt like it. But this one brings out a whole different sound that i really like, her cleans are better, her growls filthy as always, and they brought some fine melodies in this one. I always had a problem with their sound, their music was nothing special to me, nothing really stood up except Tatiana, but if they keep on releasing more melodic stuff with more catchy riffs like this one, they are on the road to success.

I like the fact that you point out what all the different instruments are doing along with the vocals. I hate seeing the videos of people just focusing on her vocals when the band itself is insanely talented especially considering they are only a 3 piece band.

1000% i agree with the original comment here. You have such a good ear... i think i said, in one of your other jinjer vids, that you hear stuff i don't until you point out out... awesome.... once i get caught up on the rest of your jinjer vids I'll start on the rest

+Victor Hernandez The vocals are DEFINITELY an instrument. Only a jazz fan would say the vocalist isn't a musician, and, if you're into jazz, there's no hope for you.

    • CryHavoc
      CryHavoc 4 months ago +1

+Victor Hernandez I have to respectfully disagree there, not all vocalists might count as musicians based on however they're approaching the song but Tatiana does quite a lot of technical stuff with her voice. Her stylistic choices between fry screams, cleans, and growls are all deliberate choices and merit some attention as a piece of the overall musicianship of the song.
I think the whole band is super talented, and I enjoy this channel specifically because he breaks down all the instruments; I just also think Tatiana counts :)

    • Eluarelon
      Eluarelon 4 months ago +1

Interesting. Not a musician myself (well I do play a little bit of guitar, but I'm not really good at it) but I consider the vocals to be the most important instrument of them all, so hearing someone say that a vocalist is not a musician is a very strange thing to me. By that I'm in no way suggesting that you should ignore the other musicians, especially when they are as talented as the Jinjer guys, but the fact of the matter is that none of them can claim to be superior as a musician to Tatjana because she uses her instrument perfectly.
No matter what, I'm glad they revisit my town next month (together with Amorphis, Soilwork and Nailed to Obscurity, that will be an awesome experience).

its impressive how well she can do the growls. she is one of the best growlers in the entire metal genre, in my opinion. and her voice is just beautiful in the clean parts. she is sort of a female Tomi Joutsen (Amorphis) perfect growls and cleans.
Great song with perfect ballance between soft and hard music. one of their best so far.

Man. I am so happy that you got into their new official released video. And it's kinda crazy, because I was gonna tip you about this one earlier today because I've received the notification earlier today about it and I thought of you. This song and the video bound to it is, in my opinion insanely good and reprensentavive to the feel of the song! Wow! The song fits so well with the video. This is the album selling track to me. It is just perfectly made and as you said, it represent JINJER so well!! Man! I have listenned to it today over 20 times and I am still in shock listening to it! But mark my words: I'll always be following this band until they're done and even after... like Pantera. I love Jinjer, they are unique, impressive, artistic, consistant, improving, technicly impressive, interesting, impactful and so lovely that I'll always be following them until they're gone or until I am gonna be! ❤

What a talented band. They really seem to excel when they let their progressive influence shine through. I also think the heavier parts have so much more impact when they let the music breathe in between like they did here. I cannot wait to see what the next full length album entails because they really seem to be maturing as songwriters. As always, your reaction was great. Always a joy hearing you break down and analyze the songs. I too think the new drummer has been a great asset to this band. Everything is right where it should be with his playing. To me he's like what Martin Lopez was to Opeth. It's so awesome what a strong rhythm section can do for a band. Thanks for the video. Cheers.

I wondered what you would think about this one. It has all the elements I love about "I Speak Astronomy", and I know it was your least favorite. Really glad you liked it.
I've listened to this about a half dozen times, and I haven't caught all the lyrics yet...obviously, but it sounds like they're using the "death" of nature (fall and winter) to parallel rebirth and rising from the ashes of life altering events.
Some lines of note- The opening whisper says something about autumn being a funeral. Then there's something like, "nature is tragic and suicidal, she's spectacular when she kills herself". Then there's some lines about "her" ie Mother Nature undressing and losing leaves. Then there's a line, "goodbye, may we see each other next time", almost like it's a conversation between autumn and winter? Then there's a line, "then we fly!" or something like that.
"No we're not dead, just in coma"
My favorite is the last lines...
"the ashes of my roots, the new me will rise again, death is like poetry for me and you"
Just what I caught so far. I love the visuals of the video!

      Here are the lyrics mate:
This autumn feels like funeral to me
      the longest song of grief
and not for what has passed
      but for what shall last
Exhausted nature is tragic and suicidal!
Oh how spectacular she is when she kills herself!
Death throes are slowly crawling to her toes
as the last leaf is falling off her head
      I´m here with her undressed
With a few petals on my breasts
We shared opiates and let the landscaped do the same
I love your warmth but yet prefer to sleep in a cold alone
We fixed our eyes up to the sky
To see a flight send us farewell
May we see each other next time
So please, come back to celebrate this festival of life!
      Then as now fly!
Today you reached the point of no return
      Now cry! And then die!
Tomorrow I will meet you with your cells restored
      Annual tradition of mass destruction
In the name of total reconstruction
      My biggest source of confusion
The reason of decay and disillusion
Under permanent ice we found breathless paradise
      No, we´re not dead
      No, we´re not dead
      just enjoying coma
From the ashes of my roots the new me will rise to live again

I've listened to this countless times already. Dude, I love this song! Easily one of my favorites. I need to find the lyrics. The one lyric that hits hard and stands out is "just enjoying coma." The erieness of the song, and that one line leads me to believe it's from the point of view of a coma patient not wanting to wake up. I'm probably way off tho. Lol!
