You can tell by the narrator's sardonic tone of voice, that they are just trying to make this sound very scary to TITILLATE YOU! Sharks are a normal part of the ocean just like tigers are a normal part of India's jungles and lions are a part of the African savannahs, etc. Would you walk through a tiger's jungle territory, alone without any means of defending yourself? Same applies to the oceans! Wild animals kill to eat. If you don't want to be prey, stay out of their territory!

The Great White is probably the "biggest" outside of the Whale Shark and the Basking Shark, which are very large, but they mostly eat krill and very small fish and are never a threat to man.
There were reports of a Great White in the 1870's, possibly 35 feet long but there are not likely any that size now. "Deep Blue" is only about 20' long and estimated to be about 50 years old. There are several other named large sharks seen today, that are huge also but not white as large as "Deep Blue". At least they have not been recorded. But we are exploring more and more of our oceans now, so who knows what will be found in the future! Water covers about 3/4ths of our planet, and only about .05% of that water has been explored!

Ever since Jaws, I became fascinated with sharks.
They are no different from any other predator.
Unfortunately, they don't get a lot of sympathy.
If you choose to swim in the ocean you are going into their domain.
I am glad that they have been protected because they keep the ecosystem of the ocean in check.

Video-makers like to portray sharks as evil man-eaters! But when man splashes around on the surface of the ocean, he looks just like the shark's natural prey, i.e., the pinnipeds (seals and sea lions) so you can't blame them. And they ARE drawn to smells, including urine and blood in the ocean! It's like a calling card! But without sharks, other marine creatures would be out of balance. Sharks help keep the balance in check. They don't even LIKE the taste of humans, but they WILL test-bite to see if anything on the surface is a POSSIBLE food item! And then there's the tiger sharks, who will eat anything, since they're the garbage-cans of the sea!
And of the three large sharks that are most dangerous to man, of the Great White, the Tiger, and the Bull shark, the bull is the most dangerous, partly because it can go up fresh-water rivers and streams and into lakes that connect with the ocean, and there, it feeds. So. Africa, Australia, the coasts of Mexico and America, some islands and most seas are home to sharks and have more attacks but no area of deep water is off limits to sharks and they are coming in closer to land now due to climate warming, which is bringing in bait-fish closer and sharks will chase them in close to shore.
ALL SHARKS, including hammerheads, reef sharks, black and white-tip sharks, and others, if injured or ill, or for some reason cannot catch their natural prey, CAN be dangerous to whatever animal is in their territory, including humans. And a feeding frenzy CAN occur, but it is rare.

Not just Mako shark babies eat their siblings en utero! Most sharks do. There are several ways sharks have young, some give birth to live babies, a few lay eggs, some have eggs inside of them that hatch inside and they give birth to live young, however they do it, sharks have made a huge come-back since 1975 when the movie "Jaws" came out, creating mass hysteria, resulting in wanton killing of so many sharks. That, and the fact Asians catch them, chop off their fins for soup and throw them back in the water to die, all helped create a paucity of sharks -- for a while! They they were protected for a while, and are gaining as a species again now!
But one thing is certain, we humans are teaching sharks to connect humans with food when we dive down and hand-feed them, or chum for them, or feed them from cages! They do have brains and are capable of learning! Most shark attacks are not meant to eat humans, they do NOT like the taste of humans, but ANY surface splashing on top of deep water will bring them up because that's exactly what their natural prey do, the pinnipeds (seals and sea lions). They "test-bite" humans but in general, will then go away because they human flesh does not meet their nutritional needs, it's USUALLY not fat enough. They may be able to sense the fat content of their prey, scientists are not sure about that yet with respect to humans!

"Joan of Shark, Chainsaw, Monster Mako, Dynamite, El Monstro, Mega Shark, Emma, Slash, and Colossus;" great names of large sharks, yet they do not mention Deep Blue, she's probably the largest Great White known. Just think how much they must have to eat to get as large as Deep Blue, i.e, 20 feet long and close to 20,000 lbs, or 10 US tons! That's a lot of meals of pinnipeds, and squid, octopus, fish and, hopefully, not humans! The two types of sharks that can get bigger than Great Whites are the whale shark and the basking shark. Big Blue, I understand, is a whale shark that hangs around Guadalupe Island. Deep Blue probably is all over but was around Australian waters and heavily pregnant when seen and estimated at her size.

Pls stop calling great whites "the ultimate hunter". Orcas are way bigger, faster, more intelligent and hunt in pods. They are known to kill great whites. So a great white shark is per definition no apax predator. It's prey to the real apax predator of the sea.
