I like to buy broken bikes 😁.Only bikes i ever bought were under $250. First bike i got a $100 1975 sohc cb750 that i still ride(I have a little over $1000 in the bike though). Bought a Honda ruckus that i ran siezed and rebult 2 times, and a few months back i got a 1995 kawasaki zx600e for $200. In rough shape not running, but i checked the compression and is ok, turns out the power regulator broke and fried the cdi/ecu. Im going to turn it into a streetfighter type bike or just sell it running and double or tripple my investment

Damaged my motorcycle this week when it slid down the road. Only cosmetic damage. Not overly bothered as bike had been bought cash. Thankful bike wasn't on finance or lease. Nothing wrong with having a bike that you can ride without worrying about getting it damaged.

I both my bikes are salvage bikes 150 for a super hawk 1000f en 500 for a xl600r, I do always check if the frames are straight and the engines health are oké.
But the more scratches and dents the fairings have, you can finesse your self a great deal! Plus you can get tires like Pirelli Corsa 2 dirt cheap if you get to know some trackday riders who use them once and they are perfectly fine for the road.
Plastics can be bought of craiglist eBay type of sites or your local wrecker just lowball all the things and someone will be needing that money quick hahaha. Both bikes have taken me from Holland to France or ofroad. Good luck guys on your hunt !!

  • Yama Satru

Just one thing to note: if you aren't DIY-minded, this isn't the way to go, because mechanics' time can quickly rack up the cost of your salvage bike. I once spent 4 hours just setting cam chain timing correctly position on a bike (it involved making a special tool). I've also spent a whole day grinding rust from, welding up leaks and grinding welds down again on an exhaust until it was fixed. Just checking valve clearances and changing oil can take hours. Every time you want to do a simple job, chances are you have to take a lot of stuff off the bike first, which takes time. If you want to buy and restore salvage bikes, it really helps if you love to DIY as much as ride around. It's a fantastic hobby but it isn't for everyone.

CycleCruza...first off if you have a clean title than comprehensive and collision insurance are available. The biggest problem with a salvage bike is getting a clean title. Its a huge pain in the ass. Also, you are accustomed to buying new or newer bikes. Yep you can get a bike for cheap but be ready to dump a ton money to get it right...plus don't forget about the frustration and time of doing it yourself. My take...save your money and do the research...there are so many clean bikes in the 2k range that are ripe for the pickings. And finally CycleCruza stop passing on the right! Peace out...and Go Browns. Kick some Ravens Ass on Sunday!

    • CycleCruza
      CycleCruza  8 months ago

It depends on the state, here in Ohio you can get PIP insurance on a salvage bike. Shit you can even plate a 2 stroke dirt bike like I did my YZ450FX with ease. I called my insurance agent and got info on insuring a salvage bike. Just check with your state, some just require an inspection to make sure it's safe.

My first bike cost me $600 it was a 97 Suzuki katana the previous owner had slid across the road. The faring on the right side and the mirror was messed up. Mechanically sound I went to Walmart bought a fiber glass repair kit. For six dollars and a bottle of spray paint for two dollars and some sandpaper I was probably $25 in rode the bike learn how to write on it and sold it for 1500 bucks on craigslist put that towards buy new bike all three Kawasaki 636 still own it.

A bass boat my dad had. Got swamped in a storm on river had to beach the boat on a sandy island. Waves pounded it and filled the boat with sand. The kid that bought the boat with a salvage title had it for years after that...no probs. Just never could get all the sand out. Different bikes and boats i know but really a insurance company just totals shit cuz they don't want to mess around. That's part of the reason why premiums on shit is so high. Its all about speed of money not necessarily the amount

  • Jerk Ass
    Jerk Ass 8 months ago

I was thinking about it. And the sv650 or 1000 would be an Awsome choice. Along with kawasaki zrx1200. Have a tank made or just paint the stocker. and change the fenders wheels tires bars and headlights. You got a totally different looking bike. Naked would be the way to go over buying a SS AND Converting it.... Also both bikes are way cool in their own right without doing shit to them....tons and tons of parts and performance stuff available

Sounds like you have taken the red pill and gone MGTOW! You are correct about women being weird now. Thank the Feminist's for that. I was raised to be a gentleman as a child. Today women are offended when you hold a door for them or drag out a shopping cart that's stuck in the line.

I have 3 salvage bikes that I build up into track bikes... Honda CBR 600RR 07, Ducati 1098S 08 and my current Aprilia RSV4 16RR Black... all had repairs to preform, to me that's the fun part of rebuilding a salvage bike. Of course, there is always a risk that something maybe really wrong....
    To me all were 👍👍😉😉

    • Steve Hacker
      Steve Hacker 8 months ago

@Erick Herrera ... Yeah, he just showed CycleTrader in his video, and to save my life, I cannot find salvaged bikes on there. I absolutely HHHATE CycleTrader! It is one of the CLUNKIEST web sites I have EVER seen, and any search parameters you enter are IGNORED. Completely worthless. I'd love to have a side business of buying cheap salvage bikes, fixing them, and flipping them, but there are legalities involved, and really, I'd first like to just get my dream bikes, and have the satisfaction of having built them back up myself. Then I could fix anything on them later on: A Honda GoldWing, a BMW R1200GS, and a couple old school 2-stroke dirt bikes. I already have a ton of bikes, but they are either new bikes that I already ride, or old 1970s and 1980s restoration projects for me to KEEP. I just want to have built a couple of my dream bikes for me to own, and then have a side business of buying, fixing, and flipping bikes I don't really care about, but that other people might love, such as sport bikes, which I personally have no interest in, but that are popular, like CC's CBR1000RR... I'd likely never ride that bike, but if I could fix one up and sell it for profit, I'd be all for it. I'd be happy to just get to a level of doing one bike a month... Even that is a lot, but I don't think it's an unreasonable goal...

The Ducati and the Aprilia I got them at Copart..... Cruza just show a site.... I highly doubt you can get a $500 bike... most likely $1K or 2K

If your looking for a project and you're mechanically minded, sure go for it, but it's still gonna cost ya chasing up the parts. I'd be looking for a cheap 90's bike with clean a title, cbr, r6 or gsxr.

This is great for people that know how to fix them. For the most part, these bike haven't just been dropped a few times. Some have been completely flattened. lol! Their was a GSXR 600 with minor damage I saw but once you add the price with fees and shipping it was over $2000.

I've seen insurance companies write off bikes that have fallen off the kickstand you really can find good deals on bikes that have a little damage most the time it's entirely cosmetic and a great way to get a good used bike for cheap

People want a cheap bike that looks expensive. Almost every Craigslist got a bike for like 600 bucks that will run, but its not a sweet supersport so they dont want it.

Not many older people still care to play in the mud and get all dirty. Props for being a kid forever and playing in the dirt! I still think fast street bike are more fun and safer than slower off road bikes,

I used to love dual sports but since they generally suck on the highway I just stick to super sports. The only dual sport I’d get is a klr

Isn't it a hassle to register a vehicle with a salvage title?

Not if you live in a state with no inspection

No not at all now if it’s from out of state title and salvage I had to actually take the bike up there for inspection all they do is look at your sewer number make sure you got your headlights work and they asked you to crank it up.

Steven Turner not really. Just fix what’s wrong. Which for bikes is mostly cosmetic reasons (like he said in the video) so you may not even have to get anything fixed. You need a salvage inspection done, so ask your local BMV or DMV about the process to get a clear or rebuilt title for the bike you want.

I would be down to see a budget build series where you walk us through the process of getting a salvaged bike. Maybe see if you can do the whole thing for under $500 and then the mods for a total of $1k? Title the series two wheels on the cheap.
