DOCTOR SLEEP - Official Teaser Trailer [HD]

  • Published on Jun 13, 2019
  • The World Will Shine Again. "Doctor Sleep" Only in Theaters November 8.
“Doctor Sleep” continues the story of Danny Torrance, 40 years after his terrifying stay at the Overlook Hotel in The Shining. Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson and newcomer Kyliegh Curran star in the supernatural thriller, directed by Mike Flanagan, from his own screenplay based upon the novel by Stephen King.
Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the “shine.” Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.
Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before-at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.
“Doctor Sleep” stars Ewan McGregor (“Star Wars: Episodes I, II & III,” “T2 Trainspotting”) as Dan Torrance, Rebecca Ferguson (the “Mission: Impossible” films, “The Greatest Showman”) as Rose the Hat, and Kyliegh Curran, in her major feature film debut, as Abra. The main ensemble cast also includes Carl Lumbly, Zahn McClarnon, Emily Alyn Lind, Bruce Greenwood, Jocelin Donahue, Alex Essoe and Cliff Curtis.
Trevor Macy and Jon Berg produced the film, with Roy Lee, Scott Lumpkin, Akiva Goldsman and Kevin McCormick serving as executive producers.
Flanagan’s behind-the-scene creative team was led by director of photography Michael Fimognari (“The Haunting of Hill House”), production designers Maher Ahmad (“Get Hard”) and Elizabeth Boller (“Hush”), and costume designer Terry Anderson (“Den of Thieves”). The music score is composed by The Newton Brothers (“The Haunting of Hill House”).
Warner Bros. Pictures presents, An Intrepid Pictures/Vertigo Entertainment Production, A Mike Flanagan Film, “Doctor Sleep.” Slated for release in North America on November 8, 2019, and globally beginning on October 30, 2019, “Doctor Sleep” will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Milking what? Doctor Sleep is a sequel written by Stephen King, Kubrick did not invent the Shining, so who is "milking" anything here? They make a movie based on a book by Stephen King, not a movie based on Kubricks movie. And Kubricks company AND King himself talked with the director and approved of the direction this movie is gonna take.

The influence of Kubrick's film is so obvious. Even from beyond the grave Stanley Kubrick is fucking with Stephen King. King has to be beyond pissed because he likely wrote a sequel to the Shining hoping that it would make people see the story the way he wanted to tell it, but Stanley Kubrick wins again.....

@Damian NWD Yes I am aware, don't worry. And I am not particularly happy with her being black, especially considering the....Information we get at the end. For the record, the only "flashback" that's taken directly from Kubrick's movie is the blood pouring out of the elevator. The other scenes, like of Danny riding his Big Wheel through the hotel's hallways and Mrs. Massey (yes, the naked lady had a name) in the hotel room bathtub, are recreations.
The filmmakers know how much Stephen King detests Kubrick's movie, but they wanted to put in a tribute to it, as it's one of the most popular horror movies of all time.

  • S R
    S R 4 days ago

Obi Wan uses the shining rather than the Force! He even has his Obi Wan beard in a couple of scenes. I always liked Ewan with a beard. It looks good on him. There's a great pic of Ewan encountering Liam Neeson at a film festival, and them pretending to have an Obi Wan/Qui Gon lightsaber duel.
I enjoyed the book, although I felt it was rather carelessly written -- several fairly glaring continuity issues, for instance. "The Shining" is a great book, and "Doctor Sleep" is a middling follow-up, which King probably wrote just so fans would quit asking him what happened to Danny Torrance. (I would also like to find out what happened to Charlie McGee, the heroine of "Firestarter".) I admit I didn't picture Ewan McGregor as Danny, who of course goes by Dan as an adult, but when the casting was announced, I thought he was a great choice. Abra in the book is white, and blonde, so it's an interesting choice to make her non-white in the movie. Rebecca Ferguson is a good actress and certainly pretty enough to play Rose. Sometimes movie versions of "eh" books can be really good, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

I want to do a sequel where the kid is all grown up and is disillusioned with life, lost sight of what's important. Then the spirits from his childhood come back and cause chaos that he needs to stop. He also teaches a kid how these supernatural beings work and becomes a father figure, learning a lesson about life in the process."

It's so weird to see the shots imitating Kubrick's. Despite all the excuses like 'King's book was a direct sequel to Shining so does our movie' they look like a cheap cosplay of a classic film which lives its own life apart from King's novel. Just like those sequels to Psycho or Space Odyssey 2001 - they all tried to recreate some vibes and visuals of original works but turned out to be lame and fake.
