Are you going to use Vega 11 and forgo Discrete gpu? If so, go ahead, if not, but a r3 1200 and overclock it.
Or 1300x if you don't like to overclock, or have a existing A series board.

    • Bax S

2600 is a very good choice for the cost, additionally strong Intel performer is the 9600k. not shown on this list for gaming tasks it sits up there with 9700k and even 9900k in some gaming bench's. if you can afford the extra 100$ about or gaming is the only thing you plan on doing with your rig in any serious way the 9600k is the clear winner.

however it is really hard to overlook 2600's cost. But be aware AMD is very ram hungry and wants better ram speeds than Intel typically does, and Intel almost always OC's better. But if that 100$ is worth that loss in performance and feature set 2600 is the clear winner per dollar.

Anything above 30% of a PC cost should have been ignored. How should I buy EVERY OTHER COMPONENT on just 60% of the budget. It's insane.
Also you say anything above 50% of the cost will be ignored, and then show $579 i9 9900K for a $1000 midrange allrounder. * actually facepalm *
Also, where do you get your prices from?!? i7 8700K is 2-3 TIMES MORE EXPENSIVE than Ryzen 7 2700X. That is NEVER great value. Someone was right here in the comments, wanna hear a joke? Intel.

Would really like to know, I have Intel's Core i5 9400F which advertises max 4.1Ghz clockspeed. Would I be able to overclock it above that or is it impossible to go any higher than what they advertise as max? I saw older CPU reach 5.0Ghz which makes me wonder if I should risk trying to go higher. A video would be appreciated on overclocking this CPU since there aren't any overclocking results to find about this one in particular

Don't go for the 8600K, the best options are the expensive path of Z370 and 8700K/ 9700K or the affordable path of 2600/X with B450.

Xicotic YT Hey bro, the usual method to figuring out if a graphics card is right for you is by checking benchmarks. You can either google the benchmarks and see a list or watch a benchmarks test on RU-clip if you want to watch how it runs. You can look at the numbers and specs on a graphics card all day long, but personally those don’t make a bit of sense to me. Seeing how it performs is simple and effective. 👍
16 GB of ram is great. If you can, you should get two 8 GB ram sticks instead of one 16 GB ram stick. That way you can dual channel, which ends up being a bit faster.
Now for your 6 core processor, what were you thinking of getting? The Ryzen 5 1600? Or something else?

  • Mr Potato

I know this is a bit useless for a lot of your viewers but for all the people in Australia and NZ, the prices are very different for the cpu's you have listed. For example the Ryzen 5 2600X in the US is $229 but in AU its $360, along with the top CPU you mentioned being the Core i7 9700K being the most sort after CPU, being $419 US compared to $700 AU. This is due to exchange rate I know, but us Aussies can't drop $700 on a CPU when we are trying to budget decent parts...
Could you do like an international recommended parts list?

    • Hunter King
      Hunter King 2 months ago

+Chris Reese if you can afford it, or even wait to save up, go for the 1440p one. Your 2080 should handle that no problem and the 9600k would not have any problems keeping up, especially when oc'd. From my experience, there is a slight bottleneck with 1080p, but that definitely lowers the more you crank the details and textures. Good luck to you my dude

    • Chris Reese
      Chris Reese 2 months ago

+Hunter King I'm going to try to pick up a 144hz 1440p monitor, if I can afford it. If not, it'll be 1080p @ 144hz. Right now I have an i5 6600k oc'd to 4.7ghz. That bottleneck is real though. I can play destiny 2 no problem however with no bottleneck. But I get a bottleneck with every other game. Insurgency :sandstorm, is the worst one. Bf1 isn't to bad if I change the render resolution.

    • Hunter King
      Hunter King 2 months ago

Don't know why he didn't mention it, but they're around the same price, with the 9600k having a bit better overclock potential. I have one, coupled with a 1080 and I love it. Definitely look into it if you're doing mostly gaming

For a more accurate comparison one should also take the power consumption into account, especially if the PC is used for many hours per day.

well most people would just recommend getting a 650 watt psu so you have lots of headroom and enough for OC which doesnt really matter today

So if I'm doing a mix of gaming, school work, audio editing and possibly video editing in the future, should I go with the i5-8700 or ryzen 5 2600, I've traditionally been an intel guy but I'm building my first PC and having a tough time deciding

If I have a gtx 1080 gpu, what do you think I should get for a cpu, I do not want to bottle neck my gpu, however pricing is still an important factor for me. Like will thr i5-8600k bottleneck the gpu? Cause i am kind of confused, cause i thought it would.

So is the core i5 a better option the best option for the high end gaming because of its performance compared to its price? Like do the some of the other ones have better performances but the amount of increase in their performance does not justify the amount pf increase in their? price

I had a 4670k with R9 290x that needed an upgrade. After checking out the prices I figured ill take a chance on some used hardware since alot of miners are flooding the market with them, some with warranties still good.
As such I made myself a decent rig with the following parts and prices:
    - 2700x with the rgb cooler + x470 + some odd bits I didn't really need but the guy threw them in there (some cheapo ssds, a 650w PSU, a GT 710, a computer case) 359USD
    - Got a pair of cheap 8GB corsairs that I managed to take to 2933 stable, haven't tried more yet ( ill replace these at some point, but working fine so far) 118USD
    - Vega 64 for 300 bucks (the 1080 is around 360 used but fuck nvidia, I'm not buying anything stamped in green out of principle)
I am using my own PSU that has better certification but everything else is good and usable.
Grand total of 780 bucks for some hardware that will last me a few years, hopefully. I've never bought used hardware but figured I'd take a chance. There are no sales happening now so going new, the same setup would set me back roughly double, around 1450 USD (without all the extra stuff I got from the cpu guy, that I will just re-sell). I am not from the US, I just did the conversions to make it easier.
I still need to get me an AM4 mounting bracket for my noctua cooler from the previous build. around 10 more dollars shipped to replace that stock AMD one.
All in all pretty happy with the cryptocurrency crash, lots of good, cheap hardware available for a change. I ran stress tests for half a day with no problems. Now I just need to figure out what I'm going to use it for since I mostly play world of warcraft in 1080p...

That's a very good, mid-range CPU. Don't regret it. For the price and performance it got big thumbs up at many places. For efficiency/dollar, a good choice.

Damn these Prices. Looks like it is getting more and more expensive to buy a CPU+MoBo
I paid 200€ for my i5 3570K...that was 2012...This thing works fine in most games (never had an issue with the performance of the CPU. But i dont play all Games). But yeah...7 Years are enough. I want a new CPU, but im not sure what i should buy. I dont want to spend more than 200€ for a CPU...

+nlyoutuberfan Yeah it would be my choice but...AM4 is supported up to 2020. When i want to upgrade my CPU in 2023, i have to buy a new Motherboard.
