  • I didn't even see it coming and I will talk more about this in a RealTalk asap. After completing all of my big trips, I suddenly realised I hadn't taken a break AT ALL this year and I had nothing more to give. But Ishi and I spent lots of time together exploring Balaton and having expensive picnics in Budapest! Need to find a way to refill my creative cup.

I think you are really going to enjoy being able to spend time with friends and family, I imagine it will feel like a different world in the uk and it may not seem so exciting as a lot of other countries in the world but we do still have some beautiful places and we're such a small island it doesn't take long to get places (although sometimes a bit pricey lol)
Maybe you could do a meetup in the UK at some point? Picnic? 😅 assuming you're coming back to the midlands, everywhere is within reach here in the middle! 😊
    Good luck!!!

I make books for a living and have to be constantly creative, every day, actually. I know exactly what you mean. You don't feel down or lazy or just can't. I think you have done the right thing ( just watched your most recent video) taking a break. Sometimes, it has taken me a good while and i have work to do. If i spend the time i'm taking off, trying to get back into my creative flow, forget it. I force myself to literally forget about what i have to do, which is hard when you need to get this thing done, but i have learnt to trust that it will come back. When you feel ready, do a very simple task and you will naturally be creating again. Obviously depending on the task, but for me, i pick up the project and flip through it and i find myself working on it, without realising it. It's the over thinking it for me. Anyway, i have gone on a bit here. Hope this makes sense to someone. Look forward to following you on your next chapter. I'm in Brighton by the way X

You have recently travelled to many of your dream destinations in the last 5 months. Beginning before Christmas with your trip with Scotty to NYC. From piecing things together, it seems like a transition like nothing you've ever experienced in your young life. First, cut yourself some slack. Don't worry about filling your cup! It must remain empty for now so you can move freely about the cabin!!! JK But honestly, I think you need to absorb the very spiritual, ancient places you've been and maybe see how you can fit what you've learned about yourself into your day to day. Like I've told you before, we'll be here Aly. Enjoy your remaining time in Budapest. Enjoy looking at the treasures you've brought back from your adventures. Pack them all safely as you get ready to move back to England. You will find your way darling! We all do... Just let it happen. Take some time to sort yourself out dear one!! Love you girl, 🌹 Joan 🌹

Totally get it. I've been going bonkers lately with travel videos and right now as much as I want to film as much as possible, I just can't bring myself to do It the last few days.
I always have to remind myself just to take time for myself and refocus and not get carried away with what viewers want and remember it's also about me.
Now I want Nutella thanks Aly! 😂

You need boredom! I know that sounds bonkers, but boredom is the mental space out of which creativity grows. You need to give yourself time and space to do nothing. Eventually the creative juices will start flowing again. (There is some science behind this btw - might be worth a google). Love how honest you always are about this kind of stuff x

I've been studying photography now for like 7 years and I have periods where I feel so sick of taking images and although it is what I want to do with my life, the thought of taking another photograph literally makes me sick. I normally end up taking a break and working in something which isn't creative and then when I come to photography I love it again. You need more you time, or just making videos for you.

When I get burnt out on making content, I read the news or opinion pieces. Granted I make commentary so it's a little easier for me to change subjects. Depending on what the issue is maybe throw darts at a map and look up pictures of those places? Maybe in the Americas since it's the side of the world you've seen the least. Everything you'd be looking up would be a bit new.

I also think that the best way to get your creativity back is to do nothing, ideas will come to you and you get started again. :) You have been to 2 big travels lately, had much input so let them work while you take a break and find balance. Keep on doing the vlogs they are really good! :)

Someone else probably already suggested this, but if you're feeling creative burnout, the first step is to just do nothing about it, go on walks, cook some recipes, read, catch up on shows, just give your mind a break! The second step is then to do more creative (but fun!) things that you don't normally do, take a painting or cooking class, plan an event (like a party) for a bunch of friends, make pottery, etc to get the creative juices flowing, but no stress if you don't like the results because there's little pressure. Then you'll be ready to go again! In other words, vacation from your vacations!

Dear Aly, I would advise you not to try to fill that creative cup. Your inner self is changing at the moment as you reach a higher stage of maturity in these months. That is one of the reasons why you decided to return to England. You are in a transitional period at the moment in which the roles you play for the outside world and for yourself (your outer self) is beginning to contradict your inner self significantly; and I believe in such a situation it is best to let your outer self adjust your inner self instead of trying to force yourself to remain who you were a year ago. It won't work and you won't be happy that way; such a project would be like trying to push your wisdom teeth back. It is my gut feeling that even your zest for travelling will gradually decrease during this transition to a higher level. Just let things go naturally, and you will discover new, different ways to be happy. Best wishes: Peter

PsychoTraveller Dear Aly, I am glad you have found my thoughts worth considering. I even have an intuition about the kind of person you would become in that "whole new chapter", but perhaps that suggestion would create too much resistance from you now, it might backfire, and I don't want to risk that. One needs more bravery to let things develop in oneself and to act accordingly than to lead an artificial life based on a false self-image. I believe you have sufficient strength to adjust to your inner changes, so you have a great chance to have a different but fulfilling life in the next few years, much happier than you have ever been. I wish you good luck: Peter

That's a really interesting way to look at this. From my past in psychology this intruiges me. I'm certainly growing a lot right now which may be confusing right now but very exciting. I'll be sure not to push myself in any direction and let this play out. I'm certain the outcome will lead to epic things and also be a whole new chapter we can take together! ☺☺☺

Something I've started to do that helps when I get creatively empty I focus on menial tasks. IE: cleaning the house, baking and cooking. Then I start learning something new creatively: like jewelry making ( which in starting to build a business from now), crochet, and needlepoint.
Maybe look into a skillshare class after at least a week of not doing super creative work. Focus on planning your move and maybe get oranganized that way.
I just got out of that creative funk after a while of nothing. Finally getting back into writing and working on music. Take as much time as you can for yourself Ally :)

Long time follower, first-time commenter :) I am a writer firstl and formost and a creative person altogether :) My best advice to refill your creative cup is to do nothing. Absolutely nothing. Don'tfeel the need to do anything, just sit with your thoughts. Then, when you feel ready, journal. This can be pen to paper or fingers to keyboard. Just write. It can be on a topic if you want, but I find that limits me. And then the third step is to reflect on what you have written, and find the lessons there. Also, I find that when I have a lot of impressions from travel, I need time to compost everything, let it sink into my system. It's a natural process, I think. And I am nowhere near the prolific traveller like you are. I have the same feeling after a day out and about in a town :)

Hey Ali! For the creative cup issue, I find that, usually, doing something that changes your perspective slightly, takes you out of your bubble really helps. Going for a walk actually usually does it for me, or grabbing a book, watching a film that intrigues me, stuff like that. It takes your mind away from your work and hopefully sparks some inspiration ! Hope it helps ! Xx
