A lot of useless comparison statements trying to make her seem dumb, until you actually understand the point she’s making do us all a favor and keep ya mouth shut and fingers resting. If people came first than an association with anything that hurts the people would not be something to be apart of. It’s bigger than some of these simple minded individuals can comprehend. So they knew the damage this action could create environmentally and they still backed it up. It wasn’t like I hope he doesn’t crash and kill someone or I hope they don’t take money out of our bank and buy drugs with it. They knew it , it was well advised the damage this would cause and the after effects to deal with it and it was like oh we get our cut who cares.

The oil is going to be moved. Whether by pipeline or by truck or train. It has been shown that pipelines are more environmentally sound when you consider the pollution belched out by the number of trucks it would take to match the pipelines volume and the accident rate of trucks and trains.

I have to admit that the CEO was very well mannered. Many people would have quickly turned things around on the congresswoman because she was wrong on her line of questioning. On the other hand, AOC is very persistent and to those not familiar with finance or how liabilities work she sounds very convincing. The fact is that she is wrong on this one. I get what she means and it would be great if banks had a social conscience before making loans but the fact is that banks are not liable, or responsible as AOC put it, for the borrower's business operations.

"Why shouldn't Wells Fargo pay for the cleanup of the oil spill?"
"Because we don't operate the pipeline."

    • Harrison Freund
      Harrison Freund Day ago

+Nico Elysium That makes no sense. If I hire you, which isn't the relationship Wells Fargo had, and YOU mess up, it's 100% YOUR fault. Wells Fargo knew there was risk, but they are not liable because they did nothing illegal or negligent. If a bought a single stock in a company that did something bad, am I personally liable aside from the risk on my initial investment, which has been entrusted to the bad actor? No. I may not like DAPL, I may not want to bank with Wells Fargo, but it is silly to think Wells Fargo has to fix someone else's mess.

    • Nico Elysium
      Nico Elysium Day ago

+Harrison Freund also! They had prior knowledge and resistance from the people that lived in the area. They knew if there was a spill, it would affect them. But they didn't pull their funds and continued pushing for the pipeline.
So yea, if they're not operating the pipeline, only investing in it. They should pay out for the clean up for the Americans that live there.

    • Nico Elysium
      Nico Elysium Day ago

+Harrison Freund no, but if I'm paying you to do a project that should be following specific guidelines of Environmental protections, and you do a half ass job that causes it to break. Yes it should be my responsibility, because I'm paying you and you are doing a shitty job.
So my responsibility is replacing you or paying to fix the mess that my money was going to.

Investing in a company is not the same as doing the crime. People invest in companies, it’s not the investors fault for what the company did. Also, Wells it’s not Wells Fargo’s job to pay for what happens at the pipeline, it’s the job of the company that manages it.

A deal that was deemed a great investment for a pipeline that was literally checked numerous times over by engineers who deemed it safe? The pipeline was deemed far more profitable and safer than transporting oil any other way. Yes, unfortunate circumstances DO happen, but I fail to see how that's the banks fault or why AOC thinks questioning them is going to solve anything. Nobody is at fault here, it was a fluke accident. If you have to pin the blame on someone, it should be the operator.

Why go after the financing instead of the companies that built & operated the pipelines in a way that allowed them to leak? It doesn't make sense to me.

    • A. T. Hawke
      A. T. Hawke 16 days ago

+Anon10 While I agree with you that without funding, the pipeline would not have been built, I don't think that going after the bank is right way to address the issue. I'm not really sure what the best solution would be, but I don't think that having the banks pay for 100% of the clean-up is the right way to do it...and no, I don't work for a bank.
I think one solution might be to have all companies involved in the construction (including the banks since without them, it never would have happened) work together to cover the cost of the clean-up. That would set a precedent that would encourage more caution with environmental impact studies, as well as an improvement in construction methods/practices/techniques.

    • Anon10

That guy jukes questions better than Walter Payton juked tackles.

    • David Avila
      David Avila 16 days ago

+Ryan Frink there are many rules and regulations that are in place in to ensure that banks who sell houses don't just sell what ever they want. Laws that are there to protect American consumers from large corporations who only care about their profits. So in many ways banks are held responsible for doing business.
The pipeline issue is a good one. They proceeded to make that pipe line dispite being told by reputable sources that it was a bad idea to do so. Then they also didn't care what the owners of that land wanted (the native Americans). This guy is misleading when he first says his bank was not involved in that pipe line, then tries to shift the the focus when she pulls out information that he was wrong. He says we were one of several banks. As if to say everyone was doing it. That is embarrassing side step right there.
As for the caging of kids I see it as a problem that anyone who is supporting should answer to. All he needs to do is respond in a way that acknowledges the problem, but he can't even do that. Another side step.
The purpose behind AOC doing this is to show what the wealthiest people and companies are investing their money. They are spending in fossil fuels dispite the adverse effect it is having on our environment. They invest in these thing because it has a fast return for profit. They figure they will be dead by the time it is to difficult or late to do something about these problems.
They invest in incarceration which has increased in recent years, and many reports point to it being because investments in these areas have also increased. He side stepped his companies invovment in that as well by saying that they have withdrawn investments in that industry. That to me undermines the impact they have already had on those people's lives. Like just own it and say you are willing to work on solutions to something you are a part of.
These people and corporations have enormous impacts on our society, and are making poor decisions on everyone's behalf. They have the resources and information to avoid these mistakes, but they continue to ignore the facts in exchange for a quick profit. That is why they need to be held accountable.
The fact that you can dilute yourself into ignoring the cause and effect of those problems is what makes you a brainwashed puppet of the deep state. I hope what you are getting paid to believe that crap is worth it to you and your family in the future, but I doubt it.

    • Ryan Frink
      Ryan Frink 16 days ago

+David Avila Well, no, that is not correct. I do want to talk about the real issues. But I'm sure your vision of what are important issues and my vision are a little different....but I digress.
Sure, let's talk about the pipeline. Let's talk about the leaks. I'm 100% on board with cleanup and repair efforts, but I think the people who actually run and maintain the pipeline are the ones who should be held responsible. Not the bank (or 17 of them) that financed the initial construction.
Let me ask you something. Say that you take out a loan for a home and hire a construction company to build that home for you. The house is a piece of shit. The foundation is collapsing, and there are wiring and electrical issues all around the home. You think the bank should be held responsible for funding the repairs? If you do, then you're completely moronic. I'm sorry, but it's not the banks fault. It's the construction company's fault. And it's your fault for hiring a shitty company.
But she's a moron because she asks him about pipeline's that they're not even involved in, she's a moron for asking "how long has Wells Fargo been financing caging children?". That question is intended to be both misleading and insulting. It's misleading because even if they provide funding for ICE doesn't mean they are responsible for the day to day activities of that group. That would be similar to if Wells Fargo financed McDonald's. Then, a customer goes into a McDonald's and finds a pubic hair in their hamburger. You think Wells Fargo is responsible for that??? AOC would have asked "How long has Wells Fargo been funding pubic hair infested burgers?". I'm sorry, but they are not responsible for the day to day operations of McDonald's. You're blaming the wrong people here.

    • David Avila
      David Avila 16 days ago

+Ryan Frink I understand why you make personal attacks on her, because you don't want talk about the real issues. It's easier to act like she is crazy than even indulge the conversation and be called out on your bs. What is foolish and embarrassing is that you and other people support guys like this who don't give a crap about anyone but themselves and already wealthy people. They only seek to benefit the rich, so unless that's you then your a moron. If you are making bank off of these types of investments it becomes clear why you don't want to see the effects.

SHE IS A RETARDED MORON ELECTED BY IDIOTS
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez falsely claims Republicans amended Constitution to kick FDR out of office "They had to amend the Constitution of the United States to make sure Roosevelt did not get reelected," Ocasio-Cortez said Friday during a night hall event with MSNBC with Chris Hayes.
Ocasio-Cortez was referring to the 22nd Amendment of the Constitution which passed in 1947. The text of the amendment states, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” FDR died in 1945, meaning he was dead for a full two years before presidential term limits were implemented.
This is not the first time Ocasio-Cortez has made factually dubious statements. For instance, in December of last year she claimed "Medicare for All" could be funded by $21 trillion in accounting errors by the Pentagon.

There’s a lot I like about her... but this is her problem: she doesn’t know when to stop. She takes everything to the point of being ridiculous. I understand the point she is trying to make... but banks loan money to people to buy cars every day and some people drive drunk and kill people. So let’s haul all the bank CEO’s in for a hearing on why they’re loaning money to people to buy cars. I mean c’mon.

It's amazing how multi million in bonuses, above and beyond multi million in pay for doing their job. Yet just don't know answers to questions about their company they are executive of. I know some one will reply that they cant know everthing. I say I agree, thats also why I agree they cant justify such Insane high bonuses.

Fucjing idiot. If I get a loan and use it to finance a jewelry heist, should the bank be held responsible for giving me a loan? Fuck no, they give loans and make money off the interest. Since when should a bank be held responsible for what someone does w a loan? Fucking stupid ass bitch. And guess what cunt Cortez, wildfires have been around for ever and floods as well. Climate change is a fucking hoax. The way you know it’s a hoax is bc the only scientists that say it’s true, receive government grants. There is thousands of actual climate scientists with integrity that will tell you it’s complete and utter horse shit.
