Excellent video. Here's a tip or two from a seasoned veteran. As soon as you remove the caliper, find or make something to fit nicely between the pads. Be sure said itrm is CLEAN and without any sharp edges. If someone accidentally squeezed the brake lever, you'll wish that you did. Even just natural expansion will give you more work to do. Secondly, I personally put tightly wound end of the spring UP towards the cap. Again just my humble opinion as I treat the spring no different than a valve spring and the tightly wound end goes toward the cylinder head as it doesn't move. The loosely wound end is the end that moves laterally like a valve spring against its retainer. Each tech has his own opinion and this is just mine. Great video, see you guys at BIKETOBERFEST !!!!

I have a sportster, 2002, 1200, I'm thinking about replacing my Cam Cover. (It's all flaking the chrome) Does S&S make adjustable push rods for my 1200? I'm thinking that might be easier than pulling my rocker boxes. My rocker box's are not leaking, I don't want to disturb them. Harley Dealership Replaced the rocker gaskets Circa 2008. Haven't ridden It a Whole heck of a lot since then. (10,000 miles maybe) Do you happen to have a video like this, only on a 1200 Sportster, Frame mount motor. I think from research, 1995 to 2003 was the same Cam/gear cover. While I'm in there, (If I decide to change the Cover) Is there a good "Mild Cam" Set I can install That will give me some Low to mid performance. I have Vance and Hines Pipes, (Like long shots I think) and screaming Eagle Air filter. If I put a set of mild cams "Geared" for low to mid range, would I likely need to re jet? I'd want cams that will "Go right in" (Don't want to have to modify the case, like I saw on another video)

    • J&P Cycles
      J&P Cycles 12 days ago

a great cam set for what you are looking to do is the S&S .482, its a straight drop in , no modification needed. Yes you can use the S&S quickee pushrods and you wont have to disassemble the rockers. J&P Cycles 12 days ago

It works really well. The wired sets do get hotter but most of the time I can only run them on half strength. The battery set isn't quite as hot but is more than enough heat. -Patrick

    • J&P Cycles
      J&P Cycles 12 days ago

It is a dry clutch, the initial soak is a break in procedure and doesn't sling oil anywhere (wipe the plates off before install as the video shows)

Oh, You say the Harley Tappets have a Dowel Pin to keep them from rotating? They don't rotate as the motor is running. IIRC, Like a Chevy Small Block motor, the lifters rotate when the motor is running.

I've held a shifter assembly in place using a rolled up playing card that I frayed at the ends(1 month like that) on a 90 katana, then on a 2000 rebel held my brake together with a paper clip, on many bikes I've held mirrors in place with paper clamps, used pliers as foot pegs, so much rigging I've done i couldn't believe it when i watched him cut those rods out and use a paper clip while working on this bike. I am impressed.

Anybody else have issues with that spring? I bought one for my 05 electra glide and the spring broke after being on for less then 2 days. Thought maybe i installed it wrong so i checked out this video and i did all this except pulling the gas cap off and shoving a towel in my tank. I called j&p customer service and was told i couldnt buy a new spring. I would have to buy a whole new kit. Honestly for something that costs more then what is offered at a local harley dealer i would think the quality would be a bit better. Tell ya what though i dont think im gonna buy no more kuryakyn stuff after this experience.
