“Meet my crazy” or “beat my crazy”?
"I've done things you people wouldn't believe-I played an artificial life form who dies in the rain giving an account of his life. I played a knight who was a wolf by night while his lady love was a hawk by day, both of them only able to meet for one hour while the sun rose. All those moments will probably be lost and forgotten in time, like tears in rain. Time to die." Goodbye, Rutger, you were amazing, and your star shined for a long time.
yung lean... thank you
I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. An entire city on fire, off the Euphrates River. I watched C-RAMs glitter in the dark, near the Korengal Valley... All those moments... Will be lost in time, like piss in the rain.
I just realized something ... The smile on Roy's face as he says "Time to die" has the same ring to it as the line in Gladiator when Maximus tells Commodus "I knew a man who once said, 'Death smiles at us all. All a man can do is smile back.'" ... Coincidence?
Roy's death scene is the most moving scene of the entire movie and one of the best scenes of all time. Not just the words Roy uses (rewritten by Rutger from the original monologue which was about 3 times longer and very convoluted) but the emotions he displays as he was recalling the memories and the half-smile he has when he says "Time to die" are just absolutely brilliant. But just as important is Deckard's reactions in the contrast cuts of this entire scene. He says nothing, but what we see on his face and eyes tells the whole story of his realization of what being human is all about ... this was two outstanding actors playing off of each other brilliantly ... RIP Rutger!!!
Your moments won't be lost in time like tears in rain. Rest In Peace, Rutger Hauer
Rest in Peace Rutger Hauer, a truly remarkable gentleman, family man, friend, activist, and a fantastic artist. You will be missed. Thank you also for your presence.
OK, why is it that before getting bit, she's Victoria, but then after getting bit, she's Josette?
It seems that the bird flying away (Despite the fact he is a robot/synth) Represents his sould heading to heaven does it not .
The most fucking brilliant scene of all times. Breathless every time you see it... despite of time. Always.
This is the type of thing we as people should do when it comes to viewing life. When we do and say things in general it makes us all the more human and sentimental. OK we may have our life end the next moment but truth be told Rutger made this character as human and real as possible. I've carried the Pan Am Games torch, been to Hopewell Rocks and realized having Asperger's Syndrome is more of a gift than a curse.
Even Adult Swim mentioned it, giving Rutger Hauer not only a memorial tribute, but showing the whole Monologue.
In Memory. Travel Well
People believe that Roy has only become empathetic at the very end, which just isn't the case. The replicants are empathetic, but only to each other, in the beginning. They are, after all; slaves. Also, beings who care about their lives are truly empathetic. The psychopathic entities are the one(s) that created them (like Tyrell) and gave them only a short life span. In other words; human beings are the monsters in this movie, not the replicants. One of the greatest movies ever made.
The only scene in the history of cinematic experience where the villain becomes hero eventually. And only a movie stalwart in the calibre of Rutger could do this performance so efficiently. You'll be sorely missed by all movie fans Roy Batty with no Termination Date to the fond memories of all your contributions to the film industry!!!
Legends never die
And what he says right before, is also perfection: “Quite an experience to live in fear, isn’t it? That’s what it is to be a slave.”
Ford got schooled here. RIP Rutger.
time to die ....... RIP Roy/Rutger.
The only monologue in a movie that has put me tears
RIP Roy/Rutger... Well cut sir (the others just have a second or 2 too long, and are clipped after Gaff starts to speak)
Respect from México to a Master: Rugter Hauer. RIP.
R.I.P to the greatest of the greats. People should also note, Vangelis's music in the background carries complete emotional weight to an otherwise desolated dystopian ruin film. Without it, not sure if this scene would have the same impact.
Goodbye Rutger :'( thank you so much for your work, we will remember it. Rest In Peace
I'm from 3030... and those words are in our bibles
RIP Rutger Hauer. One of the best movie scenes ever.
You won't be forgotten Roy Batty😭💔💔💔 1944-2019👼🕊️
R.I.P. A colossal talent that will never be forgotten.
All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. RIP Rutger Hauer. Always remembered never forgotten.
He will live forever.
RIP Mr. Hauer. We'll certainly miss you, but your memories will not be lost. :,-(
Both died in 2019. Coincidence? I think NOT!!!!!!
u could almost see and feel what he describes in the scene... very few actors can pull that off... r.i.p. Rutger Hauer
I fully believe the power of this scene comes from Deckard's realization that He wasn't the 'hero' after all, he was, in fact, the villain (or 'Bad guy'). The Replicants actions were never out of malice or insanity or thirst for blood...it was for the most HUMAN desire of all--to survive. All he'd seen, all he'd experienced, things no human could have, were now lost to the seas of time never to be remembered, relished or debated over for centuries to come. He didn't want to murder, all he wanted was to one day, long in the future, to say, 'Hey kid! Nice story...now let this old bag-a-bolts tell you a REAL one'. RIP Rutger Hauer. You, unlike the memories of Roy Batty, will not be forgotten.
My favourite movie and my favourite scene in a movie full of of iconic scenes. A beautifully apt piece of dialogue that sums up the tragedy of a replicant's search for meaning and recognition of his life. Brings tears to my eyes every-time . Rest in Peace Rutger and Paul Gardner , with whom I watched this movie many times and who loved it as much as I did.
Tears in the rain ,,,,,, one of the most famous lines of all time , I've literally never forgotten that since I first heard it almost 40years ago , nor will I ever forget the underappreciated actor who spoke that line ,,,,,,, RIP Rutger Hauer,,,,, never forgotten.
RIP Rutger.... "All these memories will be lost forever like teardrops in the rain" good luck on your journey Sir 💔
the movie was and always will be my favorite... and vangelis added such an amazing vibe with the musical score. RiP rutger , i will always remember that death scene . actors like him are a dying breed . you shal be missed <3
I just heard today that Rutger passed away. He was so good in this role.
Very like Anthony Hopkins. I could almost see him saying Clarice at the finale!

Very poignant, rest in peace Rutger.
"If only you could see what I've seen with your eyes..." Arguably one of the most tragically-underrated performers in cinematic history. Godspeed, Rutger Hauer.
Director's Cut...here we go, once more; a fitting tribute to a legend.
RIP you manly man :-(
This monologue will last forever
Goodbye Roy, we will make sure that all these moments do not disappear in time, like tears in the rain!

One of my favorite villains, from my all time favorite tech noir movie. Oh man, I can't stop crying. Thank you for such a memorable character, you really brought Roy Batty to life. RIP, Rutger Hauer.
Roy Batty's "Tears in the Rain" monologue will live forever. Rest in Peace Rutger Hauer
RIP, Rutger. it was nice to speak with you on the phone a couple of times. You were so beautiful and so gifted.
This man’s character helped me deal with my own depression years ago. Rutger Hauer will live forever with this scene. Respect.
This sums up that we all want to live. And how one accepts death is almost as important. RIP Rutger, a life well lived.
can we agree on the greatest scifi ever...
May the C-Beams Glitter forever. Rest In Peace.
classy touch my friend.
Goodbye Rutger Hauer🙁 I wonder if you were thinking these words again before leaving this world for real. This is the greatest scene in all of cinema as far as I’m concerned. Godspeed Rutger and thank you for this memory which will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.💧🌧
Rest in peace and see you on the other side. We are just tears in rain.
Those words should be on his tombstone.
Time to die. R.I.P to one of the greats!!!
I always loved this scene because it showed a moment not only of humanity for the villain, but a moment where the villain showed his experience to our hero, who clearly had no understanding of the unearthly things his opponent had seen, and Decker was forced to realize that there were things, forces in the world he couldn't hope to understand or fight against.
RIP Rutger Hauer
RIP my dearest android
The Hitcher’s funeral brought me here. RIP Sir.. Thank you for the nightmares!
These words are all the more poignant today, sadly; RIP Rutger Hauer...
Awwww Man where has the quality gone these days? I watch this movie over and over and still love it. Just to add, the budget for this was $28m (about $60m in todays money). The budget for Ghostbusters 2016... $144m !?!?!?!
This is an extraordinary performance, but for me he will always be Tillman in Porters. On Eternal Nightshift. RIP.
Immortality through film and poetry.
Good to see how many people appreciate this masterful film in general and this sublime scene in particular.
Devastating news. His acting in Blade Runner is one of the in all of cinema.
