What if you have to wear a facemask for like training purposes for military and can’t breathe out of your nose?

    • Always Adventurous
      Always Adventurous 4 hours ago

NITRO SWIMMING I’ve never used a snorkel but for my training we’re required to wear a snorkel mask with no snorkel and have to swim regular freestyle as if we were using regular goggles. I know it’s ridiculous but it’s what we have to do. I’m just trying to find the right balance of breathing out to taking the breath in but it’s so much more difficult when your nose is covered by the mask. I feel like it causes me to breathe more than I normally would with just the eye goggles

Thank you for your question! Are you talking about scuba diving snorkel? Than you should breath in and breath out from your mouth. It’s pretty much the same way, if you use swimming snorkel. Have you ever used swimming snorkel before? -V (Technique Specialist)

Thank you for your question! If you don’t have enough experience in swimming and you don’t feel comfortable in the water yet, I’d never recommend you to go to the deep area of the pool. Remember, safety first and make sure to do it under lifeguard or swim coach control. However, I’d recommend you to watch these videos, if you haven’t watched it yet. You should be able to float with your feet higher in the water. If you relax your legs and allow oxygen into them, you will float. Your legs are tight, like weights, so you will sink. Relaxation throughout the body is required.

    • NITRO SWIMMING
      NITRO SWIMMING 2 days ago

Correct! Being relaxed in the water is the key to swimming properly. A lot of people make their body stiff which leads to exhaustion because our muscles are under pressure when we stiffen of body. - Niraj (editor)

fantastic stuff..Very enabling lessons and going at the pace of the swimmers ability to take on new info. I am learning now so looking up best practice and breakdowns everywhere I can. Yours are so user friendly pal. (1 question.. why confuse him by saying five strokes and then grabbing him to roll at 3? Is that deliberate?..or you just wanted him to begin the roll process earlier?0

Mike has done a really great job. I wish I could learn swimming in person from you. I am 34 years old and a month back I joined my swimming lessons. Just like Balaji I have never swam before in my life. I could achieve only till floating on my stomach. There wasn't any improvement after this. I just saw all five lessons taught by Mike. I realised my coach didn't teach me to swim or float on back - to take time, rest, inhale and get prepared for next move. Rolling on back to breathe and again on front to swim is a key here for beginners like me. It keeps you in motion in the water. I am definitely going to try this and practice. Thanks to Mike for encouraging me to resume my swimming learning lessons. I would definitely keep you posted about my learnings after these online tutorials. Thanks.

NITRO SWIMMING Any methodology is fine. Breath is key to anything. Without it’s just useless. I only work on fine tuning the breath and the rest is history. Even a good swimmer can drown if he overdo his strokes in a deep water. 2 hrs of learning how to swim is suicide

Love your videos, can you do Fly with side breathing?

    • NITRO SWIMMING

Side breathing with butterfly is a weird combination because your both arms are working at the same time. You will loose balance in water if you try to side breathe. - Niraj (editor)

That's awesome! I appreciate that! I'm a fast learner and dedicated so I've been able to perform a lot of the techniques your channel provides. Being a Army Veteran, I really get a kick out of Coach Mike. His teaching style reminds me of one of my Air Assault Instructors from the 101st Airborne Div. I started from biscuit scratch 2 months ago. lol..now Now that I worked on those breathing techniques (floating), I was able to actually freestyle across 90% of the lane!!! The ladies said "Dang....your fast". That came from the Nitro Swim lesson about keeping your hears half submerged! So Ill take Biggest Fan of the Month Award for sure! Well....TWO month Award lol.

I will suggest you to always wear a life jacket in open waters. You have far more problems than arm movements in such waters. The technique would be the same but never try it in open waters. - Niraj (editor)

Hey bro, thanks for your informative and helpful lessons. Just a question, when we jump into the deep, should we use both our legs and arms to pop back up to the surface? If so, should we give a 100%effort to come back up.... oh will we just float back up naturally .. Its because One of my drowning incident was when I jumped in and there was this fear inside me that made me panic when I realised my feet didn't touch the bottom..

Thank you my man, ill.try that out tomorrow, I've always thought it was genetics when I wasbt able to swim/float but I was wrong because my 4 siblings and friends are confident in the deep and seeing them jump off cliffs/waterfalls/bridges etc into the deep just breaks my heart. But this won't stop me or discourage me from trying and trying until Im confident. Bless you bro and ill surely keep you posted on my progress

    • NITRO SWIMMING
      NITRO SWIMMING 7 days ago

Hello! What I would recommend is that, before you jump in the water, make sure your body is relaxed and you know you are safe. Think of the water as an old friend rather than a frightening new frontier. When you enter the water, it’s okay if your feet don’t touch the water. Your body will help you float up naturally, but you should still kick to the surface. Let me know if this helped you out! -Jake (Director)

I tried my first swimming lesson today. It was tense. I couldn't float well, my legs kept sinking and I couldn't balance my body well. I am happy though that I even got the courage to be in the water and learnt how to hold my breath in the water. I will be watching your channel now to help me. 😊

47:49 when you say “waive goodbye” what do you mean? Then you say use those hands as propellers. Are the hands waiving or going back and forth or round and round??

    • NITRO SWIMMING
      NITRO SWIMMING 7 days ago

Hello VeeBee81! Coach Mike is using a metaphor when he says to ‘wave goodbye’. If it helps you to imagine how you pull your arms forward in freestyle, imagine your arm exiting the water from behind and coming up front as a waving motion. With the propeller part, he means that your arms are acting as propellers! Let me know if you need any more help, clarification, or anything else! -Jake (Director)
