The emotional impact of this important, but tragic and, at times, very-difficult-to-watch, movie has stuck with me over the last 15 year or so since I first watched it. I have a hard time getting to the root of what intrigues me about it, but certainly a childhood friendship turned tragic because of peer pressure, the music and the idea of "innocence lost," and the way the victim is mysteriously drawn back to the home where she was raped are parts of the intrigue. If you have it in you to watch a film about childhood rape, then I highly recommend this movie.

It's so ridiculous that Franken would be there. VEEP is a comedy that makes fun of Democrats and shows how incompentent, mean spirited and cynical they are behind the scenes.

    • GAldana 94
      GAldana 94 4 months ago

@Daniel McNamee Or or or... maybe they have a sense of humor and can laugh at themselves. While I agree that Selina belongs to the democratic party, the jokes they make are not really about the democratic (or republican) party itself, but about how double-faced politicians are in general. But hey, I get why you would want to cling to the idea that they are making fun of Democrats. After all, Republicans are so unfunny and pathetic that the only good comedy at the expense of Democrats was done by Democrats themselves. And that's hilarious.

Al Franken just took too long to introduce VEEP and bored the audience with his self-aggrandizing, unfunny chit-chat that went too long and wrecked the intro. And 7:03 - earnest woman on left, and one on the far right too: two people seriously upset at the cheerleader fetus joke. And Timothy Simon's attempt at a cool haircut a la European football players like Ronaldo 2014 looks a bit ridiculous. It all felt a bit embarrassing. Not the best VEEP award video unfortunately, because it's a great show.

Despite Guilty Pleas, New York Times Spins Muslim Sex Assault on 5-Year-Old Girl in Idaho Into “Fake News” October 4, 2017 Source: Child Rape Apologist @NYTimes Turns Migrant Sex Attack of 5-Year-Old Child in Idaho into Fake News @itscaitlinhd - Geller Report In the largely discredited and disgraced New York Times, immigration “reporter” Caitlin Dickerson has penned an extraordinarily dishonest, politically motivated diatribe about the Idaho oral/anal rape of a five year girl in Twin Falls by Muslim migrant youths. Long time GR readers know all too well the gruesome details of this sex attack. I was one of the first to cover the story, and the only one to have interviewed the parents of the rape victim at length when the attack first occurred. Only last month, I conducted a Facebook LIVE with the parents. I have had access to those close to the victim since the crime took place. And yet in her close to 6,000-word piece, Dickerson never mentions any of my coverage; nor does she report any of the information I gleaned from conversations with the family. She never so much as contacted me. In her close to 6,000-word refugee propaganda promo, she has not one word from the victim’s family. Not one. She mentions random reports from “anti-refugee blogs,” not their reportage, mind you, but only to smear and defame the idea of them and the work they do. Disgusting. So what is the point of Dickerson’s article? To call the gang rape of this five-year-old girl fake news and to paint anyone who advocated for the little girl as racist-Islamophobic-anti-Muslim-bigots. Dickerson never addresses the attack or the trauma suffered by the little five-year-old girl, but instead blames “an ascendant network of anti-Muslim activists and provocateurs has exploited the fears brought on by these changes” (brought the wave of Muslim refugees into the country). It’s all about the racist white people in Idaho, as she makes a point of saying, “The girl was American and, like most people in Twin Falls, white. The boys were refugees.” Over the past decade and a half, as conflict spread across North Africa and the Middle East, Twin Falls started to resettle larger numbers of refugees with darker skin who follow an unfamiliar religion - two things that make it difficult to blend into a town that is 80 percent white. So the little five-year -ld should make it easier for the refugees to “blend in” and bend over, Dickerson? Dickerson never discusses the actual crime, parroting the line of child services and Prosecuting Attorney Grant Loeb that they couldn’t discuss it because it involved minors. So how can Dickerson deduce anything, especially when she did not investigate the nature of the crime at all? Her whole editorial mission was to paint the victim’s advocates as racist haters and the hijrah (Muslim immigration) grossly misunderstood by flyover-redneck-misanthrope-klansmen. Dickerson insists that “what happened in Twin Falls was sadly somewhat commonplace.” Well, I don’t know what hellhole Dickerson grew up in, but if the anal and oral rape of a little girl, urinating in her mouth and being sexually attacked by boys more than twice her age is commonplace, then she has problems much larger than her inferior reporting skills. Dickerson never mentions the little girl, her suffering, the medical and psychological effect, or the ongoing struggles the family faced. Further, Dickerson fails to mention the gag order placed on everyone in the courtroom of the trial of the attackers at their sentencing (of a crime Dickerson insists didn’t happen). Dickerson does nothing in her article to debunk any of the supposedly fake news and it reads like an pro-refugee, anti-Breitbart and by extension anti-Bannon/Trump hit piece aimed mostly at the anti-sharia sites that brought this case to the forefront while major media like the New York Times did nothing for more than a year. It is revisionist history. Despite claims of fake news, the Muslim refugees who sexually assaulted 5-year-old girl pled guilty and got probation, while the judge silenced the victims.

+Scott Mozingo: And they did. I don't fully get your point here. I remember them also saying that they do have Business Continuation insurance and so they were able to pay everyone their base salaries while they waited for the restaurant to open again. Yes, they were not making tips and it was hard on some of them and that too was acknowledged in the show. But in the context of one or two weeks of hard work before the big re-opening, I think Ben's comments were sort of justified. So I don;t think it was the kind of completely disconnected snarky remark that you seem to think it was. Ben and Vivian come across as caring employers even if they are hard taskmasters.

You don't know what your missing. Their restaurant burned down at one point .... and in one of the shows that showed the stress of re-opening... she was emotional and cried during the episode. - This was so rich and genuine - Really ... Its a joy to watch.

Much like its eponymous character, Doctor Who has gone through numerous iterations since its creation in 1963. Including its original run of 26 seasons, various specials and television films, and the past seven years in its current incarnation, Doctor Who has been not just a standard-bearer for long-form science fiction on TV, but it also has served as a cultural ambassador for British television the world over. For fearlessly exploring space, time, and the television world for half a century, Doctor Who receives a rare Institutional Peabody Award.
