I’m doing your 10 hour master class and I have to submit a self tape for Disney’s open casting call for 2020 and I’m hoping that your class will help. I’m terrified because the script is soooo short and I need to be believable while also giving that wow factor within about a 3 minute window...😅

My advice to all on acting is to get a degree and ACT on the side just in case u don’t succeed in acting. I myself am a film major and plan to become a director or cinematographer but really my passion lies in acting after I graduate I plan to move to a big market city to pursue my acting dreams but if all comes to worse I still have my degree and I can still work in the film industry behind the camera and I can forever keep trying to get roles.

From what you just said, I wouldn’t see the character as being ‘angry’ in this moment. Maybe annoyed or potentially afraid of getting in trouble, but I wouldn’t say he is angry. If anger is what you’ve set on to be the answer though and you’re having a hard time getting there, than look up other Disney actors for references. For example the brother in Hannah Montana or the brother in Wizards of Waverley Place have had moments when they played many moments of Disney versions of anger, so if this is the standpoint you will be sticking with, than use these actors as references to get an idea on how to play it. Hope that helps!

The Actors Academy It really did help. Thank you for your requests and comments. My audition scene is a scene where an older brother is telling his baby sister to ask Dad instead of Mom when asking for permission to do something. And then Dad hears through the baby monitor and I yell, “Baby monitor! Stupid technology!” That line is the hardest for me because I know I have to be hyper realistic and positive but angry at the same time.

One of the important things to remember is that Disney is a kids/young teens platform and there have been many solidified example towards how the acting should be. So remembering that Disney is not for the adult who’s watching a series on HBO is important. Ultimately for Disney, you should be more positive and upbeat; less towards the negative. Think about it this way, you’re playing within a bandwidth, you can’t go too far down or sometimes even too far up (for disney). Still aim towards keeping it realistic, but be your realistic self when you’re happy, energetic, and in a positive mood. Combined this with, you may consider adding a mixture of the theater towards your acting where everything is over the top (depending on what is happening in the scene). If the scene is looking for more energy, I’d suggest search for a happy medium between realistic and theater acting, while keeping the scene light, positive, and upbeat. Of course not all scenes will be the same and you may need to adjust and change any of these points accordingly, but if we’re basing our standpoint off of what is currently on Disney channel, these points are important to remember. Hope this helps :)

the easier emotions for me are sadness, exaggeration (sarcasm), and realistic (normal acting). the hardest emotion for me is somehow anger. i can have big arguments and be VERY angry well but i can’t be a calm angry, like a not so angry angry if you know what i mean.

I got a question about things with where you live. I live in the Netherlands and from personal perspective there are not many really good Dutch actors/actresses and American/English movies are never shot in the Netherlands. So my question is what do i do, i am under 18 so i cant travel on my own and stuff, but if you really want to break through you want to be in America right?

Is THIS why so many southern accents in films are crappy, short-cut characatures of real ones? Please don't oversimplify southern dialect culture into three rules that don't apply to all southern accents (even the regions you stated) and then overdo them and THEN tell other actors to follow your advice. All accents are SUBTLE. If you respect acting then you respect your character. If you respect your character, you respect where they're from. If you respect where they're from you DO THE HOMEWORK. Actually listen to people who are from where your character is from. You Tube makes this easier than it's ever been. My favorite southern accent example is Christian Bale in Public Enemy. First time I saw it, I got chills: Bale talked in an accent I hadn't heard spoken since my granny and grandad from middle of nowhere Georgia... The time and place here his character was from. Bale did the homework. "Accents are fun"... No, Actors Academy. Accents are a people.
